Me and the missus were down at Glenelg tonight having dinner.
As usual there a few nice cars down there when the 2 bob millionaires are out. 5 mins into dinner a stream of Ricers roll down the street turbos whirring (being a v8 guy I wasn't impressed) Skylines, Silvias, 350z etc etc all riced up huge body kits and the like. So about 5 cars roll buy then theres this almighty roar I look up from my curry and theres this GORGEOUS XB Coupe mint condition. I thought "thats it lads get into em show em whats a true machine is" Couple more ricers then an old holden equally mint and then tagging on the end was a BF Cobra. So I left the indian joint heading back to the car park. And loan behold all these cars including the V8's are stacked up next to these ricers. turns out there all together. I was just wondering who else finds this strange???? dont get me wrong ill talk to anyone who has an interest in motoring in whatever form. Some of my mates drive skylines and the like. But it just makes me wonder what kind of club has all these under one roof?? Name of said club?

Well I figured as much I was just wondering though because as I said my mates drive skylines and jap imports which pretty much means when it coems to large cruises we're never invited to the same ones

I think thats a good thing, we're all on the same side here regardless if our cars are 4cyl, 6cyl or 8cyl. No point fighting amongst each other when we're all being ganged up on by the public as being portrayed as hoons, am I right?

Me and some mates went for a cruise to bathurst years ago. We had an LH SLR Torana, VH group 3 brock commodore, VK LM5000 brock commodore, BA XR8 and a nicely modded Hyundai lol. Got a few looks but it's all good fun.

Yea the other night i was driving to work and so i drove through my back streets and then i hear the fully sick as blow off valve and some wheel spin and i giggled a bit. Then this commodore whips it out and so do a few other ricers and common whores so i put my foot down and the exhaust note echoing in the back streets made my presence known. What was weird when i caught up to the ricers and common whores and EF Falcon pulls out behind me and once i turned off from all of them the EF followed them
Hmph it takes all kinds ! |

Ever since that movie "Fast and the furious" it's all gone to hell. Most thanks here go to Vin Diesel racing that V8 at the end there.

+1 as a positive.
We dont need no shtinkin fences between car enthusiasts these days. Face it, we're a dying race. I have a good friend at work who is into R32's. Not my thing but I show as much enthusiasm for that as they show in my BA. And my old VX SS. I'd happily cruise with them if I was half my age

My history of cars goes A) worked 6, B) stock 6, C) stock 6 (replaced with a worked V8), D) worked 4, E) stock 4, F) worked 4 and hopefully I’ll have G) as a worked turbo 6.
I’ve still got A, C, E & F. All of my cars have done or will do various track days. With that history of cars I can’t take sides. But I would never look down on a particular car just because of it’s cylinder count (or lack of them in a rotary’s case) or because of it’s method of induction. I didn’t think much of my first 4 cylinder until I started getting quicker than the times of a few bigger capacity cars in club sprints. From that moment on I didn’t give a damn about traffic light grand prix performance. It was all about corner speed, braking points and lap times from that point on. What I will say is that I hope that my V8 will eventually brake and corner as well as my 4 cylinder cars and I’d love my 4’s to have as much torque and accelerate as well as my V8. |

Nothing strange at all. Doesn't matter what your drive if your an enthusiast.
Might not be a club as such. Could be a internet forum meet. If it is a car club, then maybe the Street Machine Association of SA. I went to one of their rallies a few years back, and there were cars of all makes. Or it could just be a group of mates out together for the night. |

Rev28k you have pretty much summed it up except you could add you want your v8 to use as much fuel as a 4 |

Can't say i really consider most Turbo Jap cars "Rice"...
Rice to me is the 1.6-2.5L N/A 4Cyl beasts running 4" Cannons. Good on them for getting together and obviously grabbing more than a few peoples attention. |

Maybe they're all mates and very much individual to choice of car they drive, love to be a fly on the wall in their car conversations though with that type of spread, and for me come summer I will be cruising with 5-6 worked LS1's, it just goes to show my individuality when it comes to my group of best mates
To the OP I don't understand why you think any of them are embarrasing themselves, if its a nice car, its a nice car whatever the make.

Multiculturalism?
Who the hell cares? Is there a problem with this going on or should bogans/ricers/greasers/etc. be segregated and fined for interacting as a group like common bikers? |

yeah i don't see the embarassment either.. its just a bunch of guys into the same thing.... Cars...
at the end of the day it doesn't matter what badge is on it, it's an appreciation of the engineering...

I like the fact that these blokes can cruise together without their ego's getting in the way. Good to see and its not common enough IMHO.

"Why are you embarassing yourself.....???"
i dont understand what you mean with this heading ??? do you think that it is embarassing to mix with people that drive different kinds of cars or is it embarassing to stick with the one kind?

Not all car clubs and limited to a certain make of car.
I've got friends and people I know who like different types of cars, some drive old school v8s, others wont touch a thing older than 5 years, other's ricers, other's are into mini trucks, and others, 4WDs. At the end of the day, it's a love of cars that unites us. Dispite the differences.

That's the trouble with Glenelg, like flies to sh-t it attracts show off car owners. I used to live there and know people that live in Holdfast Shores/Liberty apartment buildings, loud exhausts don't anything for these people, rant over.
Ibrox90, I'm guessing you went to the Indian on Jetty road Pride of India. Went there once... once ! Try Veena on Brighton Rd opposite Foodland, the melegu beef is top shelf. |

I dont see whats wrong with different cars together, Skylines and silvia's are far from a rice. Most would give many a ford or holden a good run for its money.
