Unhappy Saw the sadest thing today

Coming home tonight through Rostrevor i saw a lovelly old XC GXL Fairmont with a 4.9ltr. It was red with a black vinyl roof and looked reasonably straight.

Unfortunately it looks like the poor old girl is used as a work hack towing a trailer full of junk.

If it belongs to anyone here please restore it or give it to me.

Oh well i guess it is not on the scrap heap yet :

mate thats what unfortunately happens to cars, my brother had (maybe not the best car in the world or the rarest) a Nice Green Rodeo only 2 years old when he sold it had a carryboy canopy always washed at least 1-2 times a week chrome bullbar really lovely kept car, sold it...saw it a couple of weeks ago it was fu*ked rear window missing drivers door hanging and just wrecked! if you go to sell a car to anyone other then an enthusiast you cant have an attachment to it, it just makes it hard when you see it again later in its life.

Whats wrong with it Towing something? It is a car with a big V8 in there after all. It's good to see someone is using their pride and joy like an actual CAR and not a show piece.

+1 it's still being used and going strong so what's the problem?

Funny thing is I like seeing cars being used like that, a big V8 rear wheel drive is perfect for towing, but I can certainly imagine that the car would look beautiful fully restored.

After a week of cross country horse riding competitions, my banged up AU2 Fairmont is covered in bugs, has mud all over the sides and back and its towing a heavy horse float with the car full of rubbish.... and in moments like this I reckon it looks a million bucks!

Pretty sure that XC was at my work the other day. The paint on it is pretty average if it's the same car.

Well said. It's an aussie car with a V8 doing it's job. Well done for the owner having kept it in shape all these years so it can continue to do its job.

Got no problems with it being driven and towing but we all know what happens when they go bang. straight to junk heap.

Then we all sit back and say what a waste of a bloody good car, why the hell did they do that.

Im just saying that i'd rather see it saved now before it is scrapped.

I have an xf falcon ute that has been putting boats in the water since 1984 up to 2005 when i got it, nothing on the car has been touched apart from me cutting some rust out a few years ago changing a water pump & some other serviceable items, it has been indestructible, yet every morning i go out and start it it rattles into life, and away it goes to do daily chores not so much as a hiccup. So i love it to bits because all the little things like a rust, chips, dodgey door handles, & oil leaks only add character to these cars. And it seems to sort of grow old with you, yeh I got an idea what it like to get a good feeling when you see an old work horse...

There's an old dude that was gettin around in Mackay when i was livin there, in an XA GT (genuine from all accounts) and it was just a tattered bucket of bolts. 1 fat 12 slotter on 1 side and a skinny spare on the other, rust hangin out of it, bent panels, 1 window missing, etc.
I asked him how much he would sell it for, 30k was his answer,.
He knew what it was worth but he just drove it round everyday doin whatever he does.
Waste of a GT i know but it was his to do with what he liked.

the xc i just bought from my 74 year old neighbor(matching number v8 fairmont rally pak),was his daily transport for the last 25 odd years ,to him it was only transport nothing else,he drove everywhere with his dog in the car (rear seats sagged),i know this cause i seen it and cause the dog ate the rear door handles and chewed on the door trims,he only got rid of it cause he couldnt afford to run it (fuel was $1.50 +per litre)if i hadnt showed an interest in it it was of to the wreckers/scrappys
years ago people wernt into rarity of models/options like we are today, they just drove them, (wat they were built for),every time i catch up with my neighbor i let him drive the car,hes like a kid in a candy store ,(smile from ear to ear ),money cant buy seeing stuff like that ,so to me the car is more than its built sheet !!!!

Nothing wrong with expressing an opinion and is encouraged...until the mods get whiff of it and the post disappears into the abyss. Brembos are overrated anyway and every manufacturer has them now - there is a scooter company that installs them(Vespa I think..)so they are in good company...lol. TIC of course and too bad if there is no sense of humour out there...take it in the fun is is intended

My mum still has a 1985 XF S Pack in the horrid lime green colour with orange(red??) piping Also used daily and dropped a boat in and out of Toowoomba dams since 1990(not now as there is no water!!). Been in 3 accidents including a rollover and still going strong(the rollover was a lucky one where it landed right way up!!). Cant kill old Fords and they just keep on throwing their heads up every time. Will definitely be keeping the old girl when mum gets rid of it...

unfortunately he's right. some of the mods on this forum will close down a thread simply because "they" don't like the topic. it's sad but true. cheers.
