Default Mullaly confirms Falcon and Mustang to share platform from 2016

Just read in the Herald Sun, Mullaly has confirmed Falcon and Mustang platforms will be shared from 2016 "We've learned so much from the Falcon because its such a dynamite car...the whole thing about rear wheel drive? Were going to have rear wheel drive...(the) next version of the Falcon will be even better, in capital letters"

Hopefully this kicks off a 'glass half full thread' maybe a little more optimism? ;)

Was getting grumpy listening to the news last night.

GM can go broke
Holden can get massive gov loans, then receive more money to NOT build a new car platform over here
SAAB.. broke.. sold off

But if someone in the US mentions the chance of change in falcon.. OMG they are all onto it. One of the news even reported that Ford had hit the 'financial skids' when in fact they are pretty decent shape globally.

I really hope they see the light and take on some of our design over there.

This has been on the cards for quite a while, seems it's going ahead which will be fantastic.

I believe there is another car involved also.

Why couldn't they have just said that yesterday instead of what they said.. They really do have themselfs to blame. Guess how many will now report this news tonight?? (none). They are behind Holden in marketing & now behind Holdne in PR too it would seem..

Any way, good news I guess

Thank Christ for that.

RWD Falcon is here to stay. Mustang will never go FWD, and now Falcon won't either. This is also a vote of confidence in Ford Australia, because Falcon will remain locally manufactured.

There'll be global implications for Terri too...

And considering what was shown at the PG recently, Ford have the right cars in mind.

Had a very strong feeling that this would be the case, in fact a few mates were giving me a ribbing and I told them all to wait on this news.

No doomsdayism here!

If this is true, what a change in tact in 24 hours:

http://www.goauto.com.au/mellor/mell...2576A8002405A6

Kuzak was saying that Taurus and Falcon need to be brought together. And that FWD has some excellent advantages.

CEO Mually was saying in deciding in RWD, costs will have precedence over function and design.

Hang on, if the Mustang and Falcon share the same platform then I reckon the chances of us having a crack at the Mustang being sold here would increase significantly.

Interesting.

Interesting.
Especially if we built it here.

Does this mean Mustang will grow, or Falcon will shrink?

Edit: We must remember Henry Ford's former estate in Dearborn. It has a role to play here, too.

hard to believe that in 5 years time we could see Falcon & Mustang taking the fight up to Commodore & Camaro on both sides of the Pacific.

Well if we get a locally built Mustang count me in. I have no need for a 4 door 1800kg car.

Thank god for that (should i say thank ford for that) It never made sense to me that after putting in $230million in the falcon that they would after 3-4 years change to go front wheel drive.

Rear Wheel Drive falcon for ever!

Doubt it, every motoring website is too busy pumping out the news of the chance that we may get a Camaro....

THIS JUST IN! Falcon and Mustang to share FWD platform from 2011.

God, I hope not! As much as I am hopeful, that is what it reads like to me, to be sadly honest. I'm not going to pay much attention to it though; why?, well how many times now has 'someone' in HQ made a statement on Monday only for it to be retracted on Wednesday and something to come out of complete let field replace it?

What we can determine from the statement either way is that there might be, like has already been said in the last couple of posts, a real good chan of us getting the Mustang here, which will compete with the Camaro that was announced for Australia by GM HQ, as long as they don't retract their statement.

I've actually given thought to importing a modern Mustang before, last time our dollar was up, especially considering how damn cheap American cars are. I didn't go through with it, but that was the previous update also.

If they sold the 2010 Mustangs here for a reasonable price, I'd grab my socks, shoes and checkbook and head down to have a look.

OOOooooo, inline turbo 6 in a 4 door Mustang with ZF 6 speed.

I refrained from posting in the other thread, as I honestly thought there was a bit of heresy and mis-comunication and media doing an awesome job like usual.
This sounds like a plan that Ford would execute.
