Two killed Test driving Porsche In Brisbane

LATEST: TWO men killed when a Porsche collided with a truck in Brisbane's south were testing specialists for a suspension and steering repair shop.

It has been revealed neither of the men owned the car. Both worked for Fulcrum suspension and steering specialists at Moorooka.
The men have been named as Greg Wright, 47 and Jarrod Hamilton, 27.

They were conducting a test drive of a long-term customer's Porsche 996 GT2 before work began on replacing suspension components on the vehicle.

Fulcrum Suspensions managing director Graham Scudamore-Smith stated: "On behalf of the entire Fulcrum Suspensions family we extend our deepest sympathies and condolences to the loved ones and friends of Greg and Jarrod after today's terrible tragedy. Greg was a member of the Fulcrum family for nine years, while Jarrod had been with us for just over three years.

"Both were highly experienced and responsible drivers. Both were professional engineers who made major contributions to the business. No words are enough to express the sadness and shock that we are all experiencing at this time.

"We are all still trying to piece together what caused this tragedy.

Both men are understood to have young families.

Early investigations suggest speed may have been a factor in the crash.

The collision occurred about 10.30am on Fairfield Road near the intersection with Nelson Street at Yeronga.

Local workers said the silver Porsche coupe was heading towards the City when it appeared to lose control in the wet and veer on to the wrong side of the road, into the path of an oncoming truck.

Police and emergency services were at the scene.

The driver of the truck was taken to hospital for observation but he was not believed to be seriously injured.

Fairfield Rd will remain closed to all motorists in both directions while police investigations continue

The last 2 pics make me angry. I know that they will take pics and post them of the car and that is fine as we all (well most people) want to see the damage. But to show the body being wheeled off covered or not is shocking to say the least. There is no need to post up those pics, think of the family and friends that may be looking at the pictures, the last thing they want to see is a body being wheeled off, all they can do is say "oh was that my dad's body"

Yes they are shocking pictures, but they might just knock some sense into someone seeing them..... "we are not 10 foot tall and bullet proof"

That was on the news tonight channel 7 one lady said the guys were trapped in the car and couldnt be reached to do cpr on .
Showed the bodies being wheeled away as well

yer your definently right. the are some ethical issues the media should not go near, the images of the man being taken away are a little bit morbid. If he wasn't covered I doubt the photographer wouldn't have taken them, so how does some pvc plastic change that, he's still a man, someones son, dad, husband, mate. I think he deserves more than for having his last photo ever taken to be of this nature in this circumstance, then being shown publicly.

exactly why I posted it. It was more to pass on the news to the rest of Australia. NOT to get anyone to start talking about the way people drive.

Yes, as people are saying, this is a tragedy, shocking etc. But it needn't have happened, this could have been anyone of us in our car and family coming the other way.

This is very very sad. Condolences to the familes of those involved. I am sure the truck driver is also in shock when something like this happens right in front of his eyes.

I had some work done on a car by the Fulcrum Marooka guys and they were very professional and gave great service. Not sure i met either of the two who have lost their lives but its a sobering thing at the very least esp since with the weather in brisbane lately it has been tough enough getting the power down in my humbe XR6. Not the best time to be doing development testing lets put it that way....

Agree with the last bit in particular. No need to show that i don't see the point of it. Why take the shot in the first place?? Can only assume the photogs get instructions these days to 'get all the shots you can', and 'editors' (if you can all them that) get the final say on what gets used or not.....

You are very right here and in the majority of my feelings I agree with you, no one should see that. The flip side of that coin is who knows, that photo may cause 5 people to be a bit more careful and it may save 5 lives. I just hope the family that do see those pics find their inner strength and see it that way.

That is correct, we could not gain enough access to commence resuscitation and his condition did not give us time to gain access. Unfortunately there was nothing we could do.

Speed was almost certainly a factor, as suggested by the damage and skid marks. We will have to wait for the result of the crash investigation to understand if it was driver error or mechanical failure. A loss of control like that does not make sense on a road like that, there were no major bends that would have caused that vehicle to lose control at the posted speed limit, even in the wet. There were other factors involved and I am not going to speculate what they were, although I have some ideas.

Tonight I will be climbing into bed after 14 hours at work with memories of that scene, it was easily the worst fatal crash I have attended. My closing thoughts tonight are ones of sorrow and empathy for the families, friends and work mates of those that were lost today. I also extend my best wishes to the truck driver and hope that one day (soon) he manages to find a way to deal with the psychological trauma of what he saw today. Finally, my best wishes to the other motorists, residents and pedestrians that witnessed it or viewed the uncensored scene, as well as all the emergency services workers that are now carrying another 2 ghosts around with them.

Can't imagine what it must be like for emergency services people such as yourself gecko.....coming to a scene like that where you can't do anything for those involved. I can honestly say i feel relieved i wasn't in the area to see it when it happened (i pass through fairly regularly that way). I dont' need to have that sort of thing haunting me.

I dont' think commenting on the causes etc. at this early stage is helpful but one thing that comes to mind is that with cars with that much grunt the consequences of misuse are so much higher. Its not about banning such cars but about being very very mindful of how you use them. No matter your experience level it is never wise to let your excitement overule your better judgement....

agreed. I actually live a few streets away from where the accident happened. Regarding excitement overuling better judgement, especially when you are driving something like a 996 GT2, wet weather + a car that is known as the Widowmaker...

Jaws of life have that effect on cars, I doubt any of the photo's taken were prior to them using the equipment, so end result is not how it would have looked at point of accident.

*not taking away from the accident, just merely stating a fact.*

and I doubt anyone on here was a crash investigator at the site so how about leaving the comments until they are publicly known before armchair bashing.
