Default Australia Post - Getting Slack?

I'm just wondering if anybody else is as annoyed at Australia Post as I am at the moment.

Scenario 1 - last week - I was home all day on the particular day, and later in the afternoon I go check my mailbox. There was a little slip in there for my parents telling them to go pick up a registered letter (concert tickets they'd bought). Now previously with stuff like this, the postie gets off the bike, and rings the doorbell and gets someone to sign it. Not this time, I would have heard the doorbell and signed for it, instead my parents had to go to the effort of going to the post office to sign for it and pick it up. I really thought it was a bit slack considering I could have signed for it for them while I was home, postie didn't even try.

Scenario 2 - today - I've been out most of the day and I get home to find a slip to say they tried to deliver a parcel (I know what it is, something I bought off eBay). This wouldn't normally bother me, but the slip was jammed at head level for all walking past to see, in the front screen door. If it was in the letterbox it wouldn't have bothered me, but to put it right there irritated me - I live on a fairly busy street with a fairly busy bus stop across the road, anyone could have come and nicked the slip and I wouldn't have known my parcel was there!!!

Just needed to vent a bit, I mean come on AusPost, lift your game!

I had a letter arrive last Thursday....was stamped by Australia Post 18/12/2009. It was sent to me on the 17/12/2009.

At least I finally received it nearly 3 months after it was sent. :(

I run a business using them. Out of 600 packages only 2 have been lost. Not too bad.

A couple of months ago i sent a laptop by registered post to one of my nephews in Perth, my sister in law came home from work at 4:00pm to find it sitting on the front step of the house in full view of the street, whats the point of sending it registered....????

That's disgusting. I would have gone in there with the package, unopened, and demanded to see the signature of the receiver. When they wouldn't be able to produce said documentation, demand the difference between regular and registered as a refund.

Well I shot out for a bit this afternoon, though no problem, I'll grab the parcel on my way home, its Thursday, late night shopping, no problem. How wrong could I be. What kind of place in a shopping mall CLOSES itself at 5:30 and doesn't cater to the late night shoppers????? I think that's pretty bad personally, its just lucky I'm not working at the moment and can shoot in tomorrow to get it.

I find them to very very reliable, sometimes a tad slow but usually its aorund times of natural unexpected events or public holidays which is fair in my eyes.
I have never had parcels (even uninsured or unregistered) go missing in my personal situation but have had 1 go missing for work... I do sent quite a lot though, the numbers stack up well if you ask me.
What I do think needs an overhaul is their customer service as I can tell you now their staff are all over the place, some are awesome and others... lets just say I wouldn't find worse if I tried.

Their parcel pricing seems a bit hit'n'miss I must admit, many times it costs a lot less or a lot more than expected lol..... I guess that evens out too at the end of the day..?

i used to work in mail, it's a thankless horrible job. having said that i didn't mess anything up, once. just like any job, it depends on the person.

Ive had stuff go missing. One lot was some dvds, they were just dumped on the front step and didnt stay there long. Ive even had registered stuff disappear, that was a circus trying to chase up and ended up with a 'sorry we dont know where it is'

Parcels are delivered predominantly by contractors. Worth complaining about because Aust post is losing out themselves when a swift one is pulled and the note is left without checking you're home. Not only in not getting what they are paying the contractor for but also because there's more handling of the items when they are returned to a PO or mail center.

Over the last several months I (Victoria) and other family members (WA) have had nothing but problems.

Registered and express post letters are left with notices - rather than attempt to knock on the door for people who are home.

Sometimes not even leaving a notice to collect.

Calling their call centre to find out where it is ends up a wild goose chase - as they say its at south melbourne - but they can't find it - i go back twice.

Two items lost.

Just when Aust Post need to step up and diversify their products and present themselves as a reliable contact point they can't even do their basic function.

I look for alternatives and avoid them now.

Australia Post has never once lost any of my parcels I have sent.

They handle hundreds of thousands of items per week.

Ok your parcel delivery issue.... Can we have the full details?


You havent stated WHO delivers your parcel.
It is Australia Post or a CONTRACTOR.

I have had issues here with a new contractor who is hopeless and simply dont deliver parcels, the excuse given initially was that i have a "Dog in yard" sign.
Under their contract agreement they are NOT OBLIDGED to deliver the parcel if you have a dog!

I tried to explain the fact that i was actually home at the time and they simply couldve peeped the horn, like the previous contractor fellow used to do. Again under the terms of the contract they are NOT oblidged to do so...

This is what happens when government cut the **** outta funding for public utilities and start using the cheapest contractor you can find....

Feedback of 176 on Ebay...over 200 items purchased...never had a problem.
Also on Oztion.com, and was on Sold.

Only really had one issue when it took two weeks from an item to get from Keysborough to Glen Waverley.

The system is not failsafe, but name one that is...

Getting slack? I had some speakers sent via Aus post by a very respectable member on these forums, and when I recieved the they were completely F U C..


..with irrepairable damage to both sets. Did I mention they were packed exactly as some of the top audio forums would recommend, and that they barely traveled 300km??

I was pretty much of the mind that 'well, ******** happens, and accident is an accident, I'll just lodge a claim'..

What really gets me though, is that you first have to submit a complaint, which they then review to see if it's valid, before you're even allowed to ask if you could pretty please receive some compensation for your goods which you paid additional fees to have them register and insure!

Aust Post lost a set of pistons I sold on egay a few weeks ago .

I contacted them and as a result i will be reimbursed $50 + postage costs which does not cover the cost of the item.

I have never previously had any issues sending stuff but from now on it will all be sent via registered mail.

My problem is, why bother giving me a tracking number for reg post when I am told you won't know where it is till the day it is delivered. I had $150 worth of models arrive, we were not home so a nice slip was left at my door, so 1. Advertised we were not home and 2. as aus post do not ask for i.d, even though it is a registered parcel any person could have taken the slip and enjoyed my models.

All mail services have their issues eg: Hongkong post, 1 parcel sent 3rd march I received it yesterday, the other parcel sent on the 26th Feb (well according to their tracking it left on that date) only just cleared customs. Both parcels are model planes.

Also this latest scam of charging box dimensions rather than actual weight sucks, I had a 1.5kg item but it was in their largest box with bubblewrap etc. Cost me $49 to post over east, yet 2 years ago I sent a 5kg PS3 registered over east for $32.

I got a letter yesterday, redirected to me last October (2009), as I was working in Sydney.
I beat the letter back here as the sender rang me on Monday saying the letter had been returned to them marked 'not at this address' it had been sent back by the Hotel I'd been living at in Sydney.

I knew of the letters existence and had the mail at the hotel checked before I left.

In the last 2 months Australia Post (or their contractors) have managed to lose 8 registered parcels to me. Two were from the Gold Coast, 4 from Adelaide, 1 from Cairns and 1 from Brisbane.
They are still hunting 7 of the 8 parcels with the response of 'we have no idea where they have gone'.

What on earth is the point on registering something if it still doesn't guarantee it getting to you??

Today my son received one of those little slips telling you a registered parcel could be collected at the PO after 9am on the 12th. Which is fine to collect something the day after but I was home all day with the main front door open, so it was obvious someone was home...

Starting to think it is safer to simply not send anything via Australia Post..

I had a power supply I ordered for a customer go missing, after an arguement with the supplier who insisted he had sent it he finally agreed to send a replacement. 7 months later I received the express post satchel, relations with the supplier had been strained after this incident so I would call that grounds for complaint not just whinging. BTW thats just the worst of many complaints I have about this useless organisation

Apart from the airbox that took ages to get to you that they didn't know where it was that I had to chase up for you. They only updated it on their website (tracking as it was registered) 3 days after it had been delivered and even then it only said it was in a DC somewhere.

Nothing but problems for me lately. All my mail keeps going to an address with the same number as me, but a few streets away, in a different suburb. It has my address on it, not the one it keeps going to. Complain, but nothing happens.
Registered things being left on my doorstep is annoying. Especially when they are $1000 items, and Im home at the time.
Friend had a parcel sent, and went he got it, it had been opened, DVD's taken out, and Ipod gone. Nothing they can do apparently.
Was sent vernier gears from Crow, rang up two weeks later as it hadnt arrived, so they sent another one. A week after I got the second one, the first one showed up, so I sent it back.
We get number 104, 106 and 110 mail in our letterbox, and we are 108.
Kind of anoying to be honest.

At Christmas we had christmas presents left at the front door! Mail didn`t arrive in Queensland,The phone bill only a couple days untill it is due to be payed.With that One I don`t know if it is Aust post or Telsta.One day we have no mail ,then the next a bundle,who knows.

Had my fair share of problems. DVD's and games left in the letter box. When I ring to complain, all they say is, put in a bigger letterbox. When I tell them, what about putting a delivery slip in the letter box, then they decide, that's a good idea. That lasts about 3 months and then I'm back to square one.

Parcels on the door step. Regular occurance. Again I complain and all hey say is "we'll contact the contractor". From that, we'll wait till the next parcel is due and the misses will have a spit at them and tell them to lift their game, otherwise they'll be coughing up for "missing" parcels. Strangely, after the spit, we get a new contractor delivering, so we end up at square one again.

Am I a whinger? Probably. But I'm not throwing money down the toilet because of incompetant Aust post workers.

I reckon some of you are very unlucky to have multiple problems, I've worked in production mailing for nearly a decade and have mailed literally tens of millions of mail pieces through Aust post and the issues are pretty minimal. At the moment I mail strictly legal mail that must reach the recipients or they can take legal action against us and we have next to no problems.

If you've complained and they got rid of the contractor and hired a new one that's good service, what more could you ask for.
It's impressive they would go to those lengths given the copious amounts of mail in the system at any given time, your parcel is one of millions.
