Default 11 tonne towing capacity - Now we're talking!

One of the coolest vehicles in Ford's lineup - F350 Super Duty. Fantastic fuel economy too.

3 tonnes
6.7 litre V8 turbo diesel
Real world fuel economy 12-14 litres per 100km.

Manly truck is large and in charge

BY DEREK MCNAUGHTON, CANWEST NEWS SERVICE

I’ve never sat at the helm of a diesel locomotive, but I would bet good money it is not much different than sitting behind the wheel of the 2011 Ford F-350 Super Duty.

Long, tall and snorting with enough torque to uproot a bungalow and drag it across town, the newest Super Duty from Ford is, bar none, the best-looking pickup Ford has ever built and quite possibly the largest. The proportions of the truck make it stand out from all other trucks in the market and the “power dome” hood is the toughest-looking sheaf of sheetmetal I’ve witnessed on a pickup, as is the equally massive chrome grille.

At almost 80 inches tall and riding on beautiful 20-inch wheels, my white platinum metallic tester certainly would not fit in the underground parking garages of Ottawa, unless I wanted to make it a convertible. The top of the tailgate measured almost to the top of my wife’s minivan. And, of course, just about everywhere one goes with this truck come unsolicited comments about how “that is one big truck.”

Rest of the article here http://www.driving.ca/Test+2011+Ford...204/story.html

Can I have one..?

The local Ford dealer called me up when he got their first one in. I drove the 6.2 petrol and the 6.7 diesel. I LOVE that diesel! I was able to spin both back wheels in the dry (it had the locking rear diff), while i was already moving (after I turned the TC off). Very quiet and refined, air conditioned seats. The diesel got the fuel economy you mentioned. I averaged about 19-20mpg. That was with the 3.55 rear axle, there is a 3.31 rear axle which would I would take if fuel economy was my priority and I wasn't towing every day. I want one!!!

Weak. LOL

our pushout tug is much smaller in physical size yet can handle 350,000+ kg. And outs is the baby model

But sadly can only do 25km/h

crazy machine though. I do laugh everytime I see something like these on the roads. Where do you fit it? I saw one take up 4 car spaces a lwb dually LOL

I'd buy an actual truck for the massive hauling and a luxury sedan as a car instead of this giant thing

It is an actual truck! Unless you need to tow more than 11 tonnes? LOL I certainly don't!

What kind of money would the new superduty F350 cost over here in aus? What's the cost in USA?

If only I had the money...
I would only buy one if I had to actually use it regularly and for more than 2 years. Otherwise I can't justify owning a truck like that!
Damn cool though and no one on the road would dare mess with ya

Who ever believes that a 7l 3 ton truck is going to do 12l/100km is dreaming regardless of the fact it's an oil burner.

The vids I have seen of them all show about 7mpg average on the trip computer LOL

The turbo diesel F350 ambulances do not get anywhere near 12L/100 km, more like 20L.

it would`nt surprise me if it got the economy claimed(depending on gearing), even at 3 tons a 7 litre turbo diesel would`nt even feel it, its idle/clutch engagement torque would still probably be comparable to a boss at full scream.

And there are only the F350's ... wonder if the new models will be coming out in the F650 and F750's like they used to ... makes the F350 look like a little Tonka truck.

I read a comment by a us owner on a review of one of these things. The owner of the 2011 F350 sd said it got 12 mpg over a 380mile highway trip with cruise set
this is for the 6.7 td

still 12mpg isn't all that bad for the titanic

Im at a stage in my life where i have come to realise how muh more fun i could have in something like a SVT Raptor of a 4x4 F150 over a FG/FGII XR8 Ute, really wish Ford Aus offerered something in this sector for some Offroad/Mud Fun on the hundreds of logging tracks i have to play on out my way, especially this time of year.

And No a Ranger Wildtrack is not in the same league.

This guy got 10mpg (23L/100km)towing 5ton over a hard 1000km. If you are getting 12mpg without towing, then something is wrong.... A few other guys on the forum are getting 12-14mpg (19-17L/100) towing similar weight.

www.pickuptrucks.com tested it getting 16mpg with an Airstream being pulled behind, and I think 19 empty. I got 20 on cruise doing 70mph, but going through some around town driving, it would only drop to about 18 or so, and eventually work its way back up. If you sat on cruise doing less than 70, I'm sure you could see 22+mpg - and get the 3.31 rear axle so you could get a bit better again.
The 6.2 petrol F250 I drove, I think I averaged about 14mpg. I haven't read Anyones review with that motor yet.

Ambulances use more fuel than an empty pickup because of the increased weight and the shape of that box on the back.

Nice rig but im just curious bout the maximum tow rating formula they use in the states. 11t on the bak of a 3t rig is a big call even with that spec engine. What does a diesel landcruiser weigh/tow as a coparison? Say 2t & 3.5t?

still sounds favourable to me, i used to run 68 ton gross with an 8.5 ton prime mover with a 13.7 l engine.
