Default Mercedes Benz- Birthday Advert

Hey guys was reading the new Wheels Mag last night which hs a great 50th Falcon aniversary section about 30+ pages. Came across an advert by Mercedes-Benz, Full page ad in Silver, that just reads
"Happy 50th Birthday Ford Falcon"
"From one icon to Another"

I thought this was quite a good respectful gesture from another auto company, just wandering if anyone has seen it and what there take on it is.

Good on them, they wouldnt really see themselves as competitors so i think its good.

It positions Merc as a classy brand that doesnt play games, one of the first rules of sales is dont bag your opposition.

I saw that last night when I bought the mag. I brought it into the dealership today and we are all quite proud to see something like that from a brand like Mercedes and also a lot of other companies throughout the magazine. Well done Falcon!

Well the Benz way is all Class.

We just bought C250 for the wife. The car is fantastic, but whole experience was just way better, all the way down to the massive bunch of flowers they delivered to the wife when they delivered the car to her. A small thing in the grand scheme of things but it works.

also when you think about it, merc is getting some decent exposure as well so its not like there's nothing in it for merc.

as mentioned already, there are numerous companies throughout the mag wishing ford a happy 50th.

Companies I have seen wishing Ford Falcon a happy 50th are Bosch, Carsales, ZF, Goodyear and most impessed with Mercedes.

Yeah they are in a different class to the Falcon but none the less, they are still honerable enough the acknowelage the milestone for the Falcon.

So here are some of the Ad's that have congratulated Falcon...

Congratulations Ford on 50 Years of Falcon..

FPV70.

I've been toying with the idea of either getting a A5 or E Coupe. Think I'm going to check out that E coupe more closely now. The marketing ploy is definately working on me.

its interesting thaqt Merc is the only auto company... the rest are from auto related companies, and those that partner with ford, but not producers of cars... from a competitor, if you will. nice + for Merc.

as a side thought, what would we all be saying if it was from Holden?!?

i think this is a really nice gesture by mercedes. although they are in somewhat competition with each other, they still pass on their congrats and recognise the falcon's contribution to australia..

now if we can get one from holden we'll be laughing haha

maybe holdens would be something along the lines of: "Happy 50th Birthday Ford Falcon. Thanks for making a more solid, reliable and better car then we ever could "

And that's exactly why they have done it. Aspiring current Falcon owners to maybe consider a Merc for the first time now, or in the future. They do have models within the reach of the Premium Falcon & FPV brands i.e. C- Class.

Clever Marketing. Great Gesture. Win+Win.

I think it shows a level of humility cause lets face it, Merc is above and beyond Ford's offerings. But the smart move here is that Merc is trying to attach itself to an Aussie Icon giving it more appeal to the masses. (Not that they were short on that anyway, but now its another angle.)

Holden couldnt do that because they are fighting for the same market. If Holden say well done, from one icon to another, they would be conceeding ground to Ford, something they cant do here. I remember Audi and BMW got into a slinging match with billboards using the phrase "Game on" and "Game over". Equals rarely compliment one another.

EDIT: CDAA beat me with that by that much!!

In recent years ther have been some notable "marketing stouches" between Audi/Lexus and BMW/Audi/Suburu. So to me its just Mercedes weeing all over their competition by rising above the pettiness.

Either that or it was just a benevolent act of kindness.

Whilst it's a nice gesture from Benz, something tells me that the marketing people at Wheels were extremely busy selling the advertising feature.

(Me cynical? Never!)

Well done Mercedes, rising above any differences they may have had and making a gesture such as this is a great marketing tool and it sets itself apart from bickering and spitefulness. My opinion of Mercedes has risen.
So to the other companies congratulating ford. They don't have to, but they do

Been thinking about it... I dont think its just about Risen above differences. Let me explain.

People who throw a birthday party are usually very selective of whom they invite as the guest are usually a reflection of the circles kept. On the same note, people who attend are equally selective of their attendence for the same reasons.

Mercedes wishing Ford a happy birthday is a very selective thought. I'm sure they wouldnt have bothered with a Kia, Mitsubishi, etc.. I think a lot has to do with the Products that Ford are producing and various safety ratings. I'm sure if Ford still had a 4 star fleet, they might not have done this. Appearence is everything. "From one Icon to another". This says we are both in the same league, in the same circles. For a prestige company to say that about a lower scale vehicle speaks volumes about the Ford product.
