Cool Countdown to new LPG I6

I am excited by this engine. It is several years overdue but better late than never. My next Falcon will be one of these. Economy, driveability and packaging will be superior to the E-gas equipped Falcons.

The toss up for me is either the EcoBoost I4T Falcon, the LILPG Falcon, diesel Territory or new diesel Ranger when all are released later this year. They are all exciting me now and I want to replace the tired old EL now!

Go the LILPG as it will have a local engine. The I4 and V6 will be imported.

I would seriously consider one, but if the tyre in the boot is the same as what they had with the last e-gas models then it will be a no go for me.

Yeah it will be interesting to see how it works. Its almost as if LPG makes more sense in wagon form than sedan purely for the more elegant solution to the spare tyre.

Exactly. Let's support a local engine that will be more economical than the Ecoboost anyway without all the "hang-ups" that the old e-gas cars had.

Like no room for the spare tire to be properly stowed in the boot........

The other consideration is that while the running cost of the EcoLPI engine may be
significantly less than the Ecoboost I-4, I'd almost bet the CO2 output will be higher.
Fleets love LPG but new car buyers stay away in droves, let's hope Ecoboost I-4 works.

Don't forget that the excise on LPG comes in next year too. That will push the gap in price between LPG and unleaded closer together over the next 5 years.

Get whatever is better, and if worried about the economic impact then make a charitable donation to the ATO.

Seriously though, the people in Geelong won't lose their jobs, they will just switch to building the engine that is in the most high demand at the time.

When exactly is this meant to be released?? When I mentioned in Nov 2009 I was looking to buy and EGas FG, I was told by respondents on this forum to hold off for the new LPI Falcon due in March 2010. Well March 2011 is almost here and I don't see any factory LPI Falcons. Thankfully the lease on our FG still has a few years to run. By then end of that time Ford should have finally released the LPI Falcon (hopefully in a ute), had time to do a few production "fixes" as they find problems in-field, and had enough time to train their dealers to be able to fix the LPI system.
Don't get me wrong I am looking forward to it. But it's getting a bit like a politicians promise ..

Unfortunately the people in Geelong only build the I6(LPG & petrol), the I4 & diesel will be imported & some workers in Geelong will be moved to other jobs IF they exist - otherwise......?

Had 2 e-gas Falcons here, Im sick of waiting for the new LPG falcon it had better be bloody good. If in the off chance they decide to make a turbo model, Id run down to my Ford dealer and put a deposit down tomorrow.

Once the I-6 goes there is no intention for Geelong engine to stay open,
all our engines will be imports, not even assembled here like Holden does.

It will as the driveability will be improved and it will be fitted with the ZF 6-speed auto, unlike the E-gas which has the old DSI 4-speed auto.

Resurrection, You mentioned packaging, is this to do with the spare tyre, do you know if they have a solution to it at the moment?

Totally serious. For the same reason that Toyota still builds the Camry in Australia. It's a global car, they "could" just import it. Ford is already used to retooling its plants according to the shifts in demand, why should Geelong be any different? They didn't shut down Kentucky, when the Excursion ended production.

.. for reasons unknown other than to get rid of old 4-speed stock??? Same as why it wasn't fitted with TC or DSC until the last minute .. despite it already having electronic throttle and most the other junk required for it to work. Ford just taking the easiest route as usual ..

Yes, I took it as more that if Geelong shut down no more engines would be assembled. But seeing as Miami is built at FPV it would still be built here. IT was more semantics then anything.

Guys,

At this stage, I wouldn't hold my breath. The purge issue, if it still hasn't been sorted out yet, is a HUGE issue and would make the difference between an approved and a non-approved product. Time will tell...
