Check out this EL GT. Even though it has only done 204 ks, is that worth a $50000 premium on the average price?

Not the best looking GT by far but is sad when something is bought for $70k plus ..... parked up for so many years and never driven and enjoyed as intended ..... then tries to sell it for a loss. If done as an investment .... bad investor! Not a car enthusiast either but I suppose some people just like to watch! Weird!

While I do like the EL GT's there is no way i would pay $105,000 for one when you a good one with about 100,000 kms on it for about $45,000 is pretty much the same conditions.

Very nice car and I love the EL GT's but I wouldnt pay that for it either.
If anything the owner may just be testing the waters.

might need to hang onto it for another 30 years or so yet, silly investment idea, he would have got more return for his money just in interest in a daily account

Would probably be a good buy if it was $85,000 cheaper, even then 20k for an el is too much to pay, I mean they were a great car in there day, but there day has been and gone as far as I am concerned. Anyone who is fair dinkum about buying some sort of collectable ford would buy old school muscle, at least you know you have a classic then.

I don't know...part of me wants to say it's a relatively rare car with bugger all kilometers on it and a lot of good options, not to mention the documentation included.
But part of me wants to say they were an ugly car in a boring colour for what was supposed to be a flash top of the line performance car in the range... The right buyer would probably pay that price for it. But I stress the right buyer...I think that advert could be there for some time... |

Fantastic car and the best example I have seen but it is way to early for them to be attractive enough to ask that sort of money. Will they ever get there? I am not sure but I don't think they will ever get the sort of prices that we have seen with earlier model GT's (XR - XB).
Anyway, if it was an investment, it was silly one as $70k towards a house in 1997 would now be worth at least 4 times the appreciation he is after on that car. I think a more realistic figure for the right buyer at this stage would be about $60k, no more.

I'm the 1st to agree the EL GT is not the prettiest of cars. The Hanibal reference is perfect.
However to a GT collector/enthusiast/nutter, you choose which name you want to apply, this car is like gold. Where else could you get one of these in "as new" condition?? As for the price, In reality it hasn't been a good investment. You could have bought a flat in fitzroy for $75k in 1997. That would be worth considerably more than $100k today. My 2c T

It would probably only appeal to someone else who would never drive it and expect the investment to cash in one day.. i.e, no-one.
I loved the look of it when it came out - I had an EF Ghia and envied it but it doesn't appeal to me at all, now. |

Love the car and model, but would only suit collecctor who does not want to drive it, as its no point buying a brand new 98 GT for 100k and then proceed to drive it around.
If you want to drive one buy a good second hand driven one, would love to add an EL GT to my garage, and might one day do so. Also my favourite colour on these. Quote:

I'm pretty sure this is the one that was on Muscle Car web site. Was less than this and has factory k's only at the time. A lot of coin, but still a good looking car. Wouldn't mind one of these.

The only thing sadder than that price is the fact some cashed up chump out there would pay that....

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder I suppose. Hell, people pay millions for paintings that look like they've been painted by a 6 year-old during a coughing fit. My recollection of the EL GT is getting a little hazy now, but unless I'm mistaken, wasn't there some controversy at the time whether it was worthy to wear the GT badge? More than a few questions were raised whether it got near its claimed 200kw(?)
For mine, the slapped-on front grill is abhorrent, and combined with an ordinary EL exterior, pedestrian EL interior, asthmatic engine, and horse & cart suspension, I'd be keeping my $100k+ in my pocket thanks very much. |
