This is my hypothetical: if car manufacturers brought the guard sheet metal right down to the tyre height, so there was no gap at all (between the guard and the tyre); would people still want to lower their cars?
Take for example an XR6, or VE SS - what do you think? |

In short, yes.
Guard height has nothing to do with centre of gravity.

Also thinking back to the Jaguar XJ's of the '70's & '80's; they made them factory low. Different market of course, but owners didn't see the need to lower them.

I'm with prydey. I only lower my cars for cosmetic reasons (unless it handles like a pig and needs stiffening up). And I also think the ride height on the FG is pretty good. I wouldn't lower one, it is about right factory.
Actually the only reason I lowered my BA was the stance wasnt right. I like a bit of foward rake and since it has a gas tank in the boot it sat too flat (ie front was too high in relation to the rear) on the factory XR8 springs.

Ground clearance is why I lower cars. My NC is not the highest car around, and I would like to go lower, but fear of defects prevents it.
