Mrs hit a pothole in her 2010 fiesta zetec, buckled the rim. Am I the only one that finds it staggering that ford are charging 1100 per rim to replace this? I find it hard to believe that buying a set of these wheels equates to almost 20% of the car price.
Is there anywhere else we can buy these from? I refuse to have to hand over that much coin for 16 inch rims that were a standard item on her car. Based on the experiences with ford so far in regards to servicing I certainly will not be returning to the brand. Thanks in advance and sorry for the whinge :p |

Theres a secondhand set for sale in the parts section for $500. The zetec wheels are crap you are better off buying a new set of aftermarket rims and using your tyres

Spare in the 2010 zetec is a space saver limited to 80kph max. It also has the weirdest jack. The missus picked up a screw and got a flat (then drove the 8 kays home and said one of the tires looks squishy). Ahh gota love em

Yep...I think it was only a couple of hundred dollar option to have a "full sized matching spare", but a woman at work had to replace one on her XR6 Turbo and got charged (more accurately the lease mob got charged) $900 for one 19" wheel...

My wife did the same thing to her 16" Ford Focus rim on her Fiesta.. I just got it fixed.. $160... You would never know it was buckled.
I used Extensive Wheel Services in Adelaide. Found a place in Melbourne for you... Advanced Alloy Wheel Repairs http://www.yellowpages.com.au/vic/mo...5-listing.html There might be more places around in Melbourne if you check through the yellowpages.

I don't know where you guys get your pricing from, but I think you are all getting shafted big time.
last year I hit a pot hole and buckled a G6ET 19" rim, I was quoted $180 for it to be repaired. But ended up getting a new one from a dealer for $256. Quote:

And you've picked up on the essential reason why they are called "fraud" sometimes.
Case in point. Old Fairlanes harmonic balancer went. Took a ride to Ford, told them 5L 94 Fairlane harmonic balancer, They told me $360, I said thanks, walked out, Drive to Walkers Autoone, said the same thing, $175, in stock. Said "Yep, one to go" Sat in the Parking lot, opened the box, pulled it out & turned it over & low behold it had the "FORD" logo stamped on the back of it. Hmmmmm..... Sounds to me like it could be a set of aftermarkets or maybe that $500 set in the sales yard.

Lucky you didn't need a starter motor for an EL XR8.
With employee discount it still came to $1500. Was good for a laugh. Any V8 part carries a massive premium i've noticed. |

Boo Hoo!
Tell you what, if you can make a rim, that meets all the required standards here and overseas, that is cheaper, I'll buy a set from you. And while you're at it, check out some other brands. See what they charge. Either that or stick to base models with steelies.

On the subject of repairing alloy wheels, as the woman at work had to get done to two of her 19's, has anyone else noticed that new wheels seem to be designed to just bend easily?
The offset makes wheels like the turbo 19's on our G6E look like old front wheel drive "outies" used to look like a decade or more back...the wheel nuts almost flush with the front face of the mag, and the spokes seemingly taking the load at the outer part of the wheel, with a long area to the inside with no support at all...this is where most modern wheels seem to get damaged, on the inside rim edge. Older wheels used to have an offset that meant the spokes and bolt-on bit in the center were pretty much towards the middle of the rim, with spokes spreading the support towards the inside and outside with a dish on the front surface, which doesn't leave a large expanse of "thin" alloy unsupported towards the center of the car. I imagine it's so they can widen the suspension out as far as possible to have better handling geometry, but it leaves the new wheels very vulnerable to damage on the inside edge as only the outer edge is actually well supported by the spokes. |

I enquired about suspension struts for my Telstar at a Ford dealer. $600...per strut!!!! Suspension places I was told to try. $190 per for sports touring struts. Similar ripoff for plastic scrivets, cost 5 cents to make, $4 each over the counter. By the way, the car cost me $800

I had a lady on the phone about two weeks ago in regards to a Fiesta rim that had hit a pot hole on Centre road. She was a lovely customer right up until I told her the price. It was like I suddenly became the worst person in the world.
Some prices from Ford are embarrassing, we let them know when, they sometimes even review the price & fix them. Other prices like the G6E 19's are 'silly cheap'. We don't EVER mention them to Ford. Go figure.

After market car places which is where lets face it, everyone with an older car goes to for parts, would have parts like yours in reasonable demand, so they would have bought it either directly in bulk from the manufacturer or from an importer. Current parts from ford are in many cases cheaper from ford parts than retail at superschitt auto and repco-n. Air filters, oil filters, even fuel filters are cheaper at ford. Standard spark plugs on the I6 are cheaper from ford. Floor mats, coolant, power steering fluid, synthetic oil; all cheaper from ford parts than the others. Unless you get trade prices at the aftermarket stores, they're a massive rip off for a product which has no manufacturer backing, and likely cost less than a third of the part that Ford Australia had to purchase. As for the 7.3 long motor, if you buy a new imported motor (V8's etc) brand new from the dealer, then I have a harbour bridge to sell you.

They are the most embarrassing, same part, same warehouse, same stickers, same warranty....hard to look people in the eye when there's a big difference!

Obviously you parts guys did not see the cost prices ? If so , why didn't you discount the price ? I cannot believe that the people responsible for setting up price matrixes in these organisations do not do price benchmarking to determine the market price for some of these goods. The mentality of high margin low turnover does not work in any spare part organisation. This mentality is for people who really do not have any real idea of their market. To think in this day and age of the internet and competition they are so naive that because it is branded Ford or Holden etc , this justifys their reasoning. We would all like to buy genuine parts and support our chosen brand of motorcar, we want you to succeed so we can still buy your products, but you make it too hard. And don't mention service costs !!
Every motoring mag worth it salt now include the cost of ownership on service and parts costs in comparisons , do you think it influences decisions come buy time for the average punter , absolutely. Throw into the mix the perceived reliability and you can see why Toyota does well.

I remember having to sell parts for the old WA/B Festivas etc and the looks customers gave you when you hand them a box with a big Kia logo on it - had numerous ones say 'no its a Ford'.........
I still cant work out why they charge so much when the aftermarket can (and does) produce better items at cheaper prices. Yes they have to back it and warrant it but so does 99% of all manufacturers. I have noticed before that Holden actively markets their spare parts to the point where they take out full page ads in magazines showing genuine bodykits for the VY/Z models. That makes sense to me - theyre selling the products to get rid of them, they make more money being sold than sitting on a shelf in a parts warehouse and the customer feels better about buying genuine parts. Its a shame Ford can't/won't/don't follow suit.

The Fiesta wheels are hideously expensive and hideous quality.
You could put a full set of aftermarket wheels and tyres on the car for $1200 and they would be far better quality than the Zetec rims. Your only chance is to try and find a 2nd hand one from eBay or similar. |
