Mesurements (from FoMoCo v6 manual)
length between spring eye centres = 47in / 1194mm length from front spring eye to centre line of axle = 19.15in / 469.2mm width of leaves = 2in / 50.8 mm |

Uneven length,,......hmmmm
Length between eyes straight line and following curve of spring (outside face) should be the same. If straight line different, then one has sagged or been 'decambered''...still special !! Also, I'm led to believe the V6and 4cyl springs were different ft/lb rates (v6 had bigger fuel tank and prob more rear squat on accel). Congrats, you are special !!! |

LOL no I'm being quite serious, I know when I bought the car it pulled hard right when braking, harder even than me at 13 and when I was getting new tyres on the boys at the shop noticed one wheel closer to the wheel arch. Anyway when I was replacing the bushes and had the leaf springs on the ground theywere odd length.
At first I thought maybe mismatched pair, maybe an Escort one, but when I replaced them I swapped them over and sure enough it fixed the skewed diff as well as the pull under braking. So ye strange

Swapped springs as in L>R and R>L ? (not just replacement set?)
OR....was one just back to front, as in rear eye was at front on that side of axle (which would 'skew' the axle), but front bolt bigger diameter than rear....Hmmmmm...so maybe not. Man, that is weird. Skewed diff (now 'fixed') would certainly explain the odd braking, and crabbing down the road I bet. Suggests chassis is not square - trapezoid? aka wonky rectangle - .....measure diagonals FR-LR and FL-RR. Hope I'm wrong on this one. I do know the Renault 16 has uneven length rear trailing arms (!! True !!), but never heard that about Capri. (nice trivia question !!) |

ye swapped L-R, trust me when I saw the skewed diff I feared the worst then when I saw the uneven springs I was scratching my head, so ye strange
