SA POLICE have this morning crushed six cars seized by the courts from hoon drivers.
One of the six cars crushed is an EF/EL XR8. http://www.adelaidenow.com.au/news/s...-1226162717219

Hopefully the former owners learnt their lesson.
To be honest though, *if* the cars were roadworthy they should have been auctioned off with the proceeds going to some local charity or other. |

Well i know ill get flammed saying this.... I have gotten 1 ticket in my 7yrs of driving.
"IF" i was on my 3rd strike and i got caught doing a stupid speed in my T3 i tell you now i wouldn't be slowing down and letting the cops take my car. I don't like the crushed car method, IMO it would make people question themselfs if they should stop or speed up on the 3rd strike |

Why don't they just take it and give it to the local TAFE college, or a wreckers. Atleast then it would be useful to someone.

How many people get chased by cops only to wreck and die/kill someone else. Are we likely to see more of these types of accidents because the perpetrator is afraid of their car being crushed? I'd say definately.

Ok, time to reply.
I aint a hoon/speeder and i would never let myself be put in a postion of a 3rd strike. But what gives the goverment the right to crush someones 10k, 30k(my car) or someones 150k(M3 or GTR) that they spent there hard earn cash. And all its for is too prove a point, a pretty poor attitude by the goverment IMO. I have thought about this topic many times and on alot of occasions on "what would i do" if i was in this situation. Im a 25 year old male, and lets be realistic, a good chance most 18-30year olds think they are untouchable on the roads and will back there own driving in this situation. Even though its a good chance the police have had driver training course. |

If it is a $150,000 car ...... big fine compared to other things that happen in the world that could be regarded as a tad more serious. Whats the fine for 3rd time drink driving?

I agree with taking the car off the idiots, but crushing I don't agree with.
Wreck them out and once all the useful parts are sold off (proceeds to victims of crime), then scrap the shell (with proceeds once again, going to victims of crime) As for value of these cars. Everyone knows that insurance companies and car yards etc etc undervalue cars. So don't believe what you read there.

Really it's quite simple, be responsible and don't drive like an idiot and you will never have to worry about your pride and joy being crushed, it's not hard really.

When they crush a car worth more than 5 grand, or something better than the xr6 or vl wagon. That is when people will take notice.
