Hey all , just spotted this one & had to share it:
http://news.ninemsn.com.au/glancevie...-island.glance __________________________________________________ _________ From 9 News: Three Japanese tourists found themselves in an embarrassing situation after their GPS led them to drive right into the muddy waters of Moreton Bay. The trio were trying to get to North Stradbroke Island in Queensland yesterday when they took the wrong turn. They travelled about 500m through mangrove mud, apparently unaware of the 15km of water separating them from their destination. Yuzu Noda, 21, said their GPS guide "told us we could drive down there". |

Reminds me of that common cartoon scene where a person is getting chased on the road and they paint centre lines to go into a wall and the person chasing drives into the wall....
Who Framed Roger Rabit has the best one I think.... Oh well.... And I always thought the Japanese to be a pretty astute bunch....

Our GPS once told us our destination was in the middle of a bridge, But we didn't stop in the middle of bridge and look for the building now did we.
I know GPS's can confuse you sometimes, but from the picture it looks like they tried to drive across the ocean. Shouldn't common sense kick in at some point. |

Pretty funny, although the authority are just going to leave the car there I think.
In an extended news feature I read yesterday the driver said something like "It may well have made it if the car was made in Japan and not Korea". Genius!

Picture shows the car AFTER the tide came in... they were driving in the mud at low tide.... (which still shoulda made them think something is wrong here...)

The GPS told them repeatedly to turn left - but they did not understand as the Japanese only know reft and right.

The mass media were slow with this story. This happened yesterday at 11am very close to where I live and it only got attention by Nine News just today.
I only found out about it via the Redlands Times website yesterday afternoon, the report said plans of removing the vehicle were abandoned due to the tide coming in so I tried to find where the car got stuck but I couldn't find it, probably because the tide was in and it might have been completely under water. But it certainly gave the Redlands some national attention. It's not the first time someone got bogged near there, years ago a guy in a Jeep Cherokee decided to go for a drive in the mudflats at low tide and got bogged. The tide came in and submerged the whole vehicle and they needed 2 tow trucks and an excavator to get it out. |
