Hey shaggers..
Want to get a bit more sound out of my XR8's stock exhaust. Will cutting the rear muffler off be ok? Won't sound too bad or too loud will it? Tried to unbolt the rear off the center muffler today to get a bit of a listen to it but the bolts wouldn't budge :(

in my opinion they sound great with just the rear mufflers removed. no drone just the sweet sound they already have just a bit louder.

My mate has a fg 302 gs (boss engine) with the centre muffler removed and it sounds good but a bit raspy at high revs
I rekon it's worth paying a few extra dollars for a full system |

Andy, I would love drop some coin into the ute's exhaust but I bought it to use as a work horse. I'd just like to be able to hear the motor better around town!
Ced, thanks.

Lol fair enough mate, it does get bloody expensive! If its a work horse then I rekon take it to exhaust joint and get them to take the centre muffler out, should only cost about $150 and if you don't like it chuck it back on

I removed the resonator from our XR8, and it is a little bit louder. It doesn't drone and it's not offensive at all, still pretty quiet.
But, it does sound crap, just as crappy as standard IMO, just a frag louder.

Just get the rear section from the back of big muffler cut. then get an exhaust mob to fit a bent pipe down to the ground. should sound nice and deep.

My AUII XR8 has the rear mufflers removed and straight through pipes welded back on. Sounds great, reasonably subtle and no drone. Lowest cost and good result - you've nothing to do by trying.
My AUIII has entire exhaust from cats back replaced with straight through pipes and two hotdogs. Sounds fantastic but is quite loud and could get tiresome if its your only car. |
