Default VFACTS May 2012

Just some prelim figures. Hilux number 1 by a landslide. Focus outselling Falcon by 60%

http://smh.drive.com.au/motor-news/w...604-1zqtv.html

Quote:
Toyota’s HiLux is the nation’s top-seller, but small cars and SUVs the big winners in May.

The Toyota HiLux workhorse is aiming for a trifecta after winning the new-car sales race for two months in a row – the first time the utility has recorded back-to-back wins.

Preliminary figures for May show the HiLux was well clear of the competition, retailing more than 4600 vehicles as the factory continues to work overtime to make up for the disruption to production caused by the Thailand floods late last year.

For the first time on record the HiLux 4WD alone (3500 sales) outsold the top-selling passenger vehicle; in previous months the HiLux has topped the charts only by combining sales of 2WD and 4WD models.

Advertisement: Story continues below The Mazda3 small car, with 3300 sales, topped passenger-vehicle sales for the fifth month in a row – and continues to lead the market overall year-to-date (17,900).

Mazda also had the top-selling compact SUV, with the new CX-5 (1650) sneaking into the top 10, ahead of the Nissan X-Trail (1450), Holden Captiva (1400), Toyota RAV4 (1350) and Subaru Forester (1100).

The result means Mazda had the two best sellers in the two biggest vehicle categories in May.

Sales of the Holden Commodore and Ford Falcon continued to decline – both were outsold by their small-car stablemates.

Holden’s locally-made Cruze beat the Commodore it shares the production line with (2800 to 2500) for the second month in a row and the third time this year.

The Commodore, which was Australia’s top-selling car for 15 years before being deposed by the Mazda3, is in danger of losing its spot as the best-selling Holden, with a slim advantage of about 90 sales in the year-to-date tally.

The Ford Focus small car – that was to built in Australia but instead will soon come to us from Thailand under a Free Trade Agreement – was Ford’s top-seller in May. With a tally of 1600 sales, the Focus was well above the Falcon’s 1000 deliveries, and about 50 ahead of the Ranger utility which led Ford in April.

Volkswagen had aggressive pricing on the Golf hatch (starting at $21,990 drive-away, about $5000 off the full RRP) but the German brand failed to repeat its all-time high figure of 3337 sales set in October 2011 – retailing about 1500 units in May.

Sales of Ford’s revitalised Territory SUV remained steady (1300) but the Toyota Prado was the top-selling recreational vehicle overall for the month with 1900 sales.

Official VFACTS figures for May are due to be released at midday tomorrow.

Territoty remain steady, i wonder what the break up of engine choice is?

Good to see the focus gain sales. Would the shift to Thai built cars include a lower RRP?

Yeah the Falcon has been averaging about 1100 vehicles a month now ... probably will end up with 12K - 13K vehicles sold in 2012 ... ouch indeed.

Its coming next year, already confirmed.

Whats the deal with Ranger supply, they could sell double if they could get supplies. Pull the whip out FFS.

Commodore is copping a canning nearly as much as Falcon is.

If anything, the commodore's drop is more alarming.

Having said that, people may be holding out for the VF.

IIRC there was a press release recently about expanding the jv Ford/Mazda plant just for Ranger/BT50 production increase.

Plus it was only in May (last month) that production has got back to initial planned output. It seems the actual plant was OK, rather the suppliers that have suffered enormously.http://www.freep.com/article/2012050...inrichs-floods

I am buying a BT-50 simply because Ford cannot supply me a Ranger for who knows how long. Ford get something good and lose out simply because head office won't allocate them enough units.

Same with Focus and Fiesta, Focus is in big demand but a little hard to sell when you cannot supply.

Does it matter, it won't make much difference to the numbers cause they hardly build/sell any.

4 today.

V8's have outsold them so far.

Poor Falcon... It's such a shame, but how much longer can they go on like this? I say it every month. You're probably sick of hearing it by now.

Falcon hasn't got much hope of selling anymore if the Commodore is struggling with under 3000 sales.

Wait, what? Only 4? Wouldnt this be there busiest time building up stock? It could hardly be worth the extra assembly line/parts complexity??

Building to order these days, not to stock as fleets are buying less Falcons and Commodores.
With skinny sales, there's no point in stockpiling cars (money), better to build to order.

Yes, but surely the orders would amount to more than 4 a day over a 4 day working week? This was supposed to replace Focus.

VW is much the same, difference seems to be that plenty of people are willing to wait for one.

The difference is, the Commodore is older, the Cruze is built on the same line, Holden have announced a export deal, and there are pictures of the next model circulating. Whilst sales are bad (but still over double Falcon) the future isnt as cloudy. There is no conspiracy against Ford, Mitsubishi had the same problem when they had falling sales and no exports.

Can't believe the lo-lux sells so well. They are terrible on fuel have crap interior and require more exensive servicing more often. (referring to tappets being serviced every 40k).

Are you serious? Commodore sells 1500 more per month, that's why. Plus most of the press are Holden lovers anyway.

Have one as a work vehicle and at 40k intervals they have to remove the Intercooler to get to the rocker cover pull it off and check the clearances of the tappets. Their timing belt require changing at 80k.

Now compared to the old ranger they require their belts to be changed at around 110k or 120

I just don't get the hype with them
