the problem with the new clio sport is that it is turbocharged. (boring flat torquey power compared to the current sport rs cup where you constantly change gears to keep the revvy power going which is fantastic fun!)
NA engines cant pass new emissions targets sadly, so if you want the best clio, you should go get one of the runout model. |

Looks like a winner to me.
Some friends of mine are real Renault enthusiasts...2012 Clio RS, 2011 Megane RS Trophee, 2007 Megane Sport...all good cars! EDIT - First thing that sprang to mind was that it looks like a VW Golf and a Kia Rio had a baby...

Ther Renault RS range of cars are fantasic, I recently had the opportunity to co-drive a Megane 250RS Cup in Targa Tasmania. There wasn't a great deal of things I could pick wrong in it, oodles of torque, handling was amazing, LSD and chassis are set up really well, no evidence of torque steer.
I was offered a great deal on one, and was so close to replacing my FG with a frog. I was put off though by the parts being hard to get and expensive. (We had a minor accident at Targa and the repair bill was quite a shock). And typically they seem to have pretty poor resale. Which is a shame. |

The most saddening thing for RS Philes is the retirement of the mighty NA F4R 2.0, what a wonderful revvy, torquey engine it was, and the sound! We will miss that engine in the move to Clio 4's 1.6T. I'm really liking this new design direction for Renault! This is one of the best looking cars in the segment and I really think that interior is a perfect blend of form and function.
Also, Renault had an RS prototype at Goodwood FoS (http://carscoop.blogspot.com/2012/07...mk4-makes.html) and now I'm really excited to see it! |

Wow. There are so many great looking, well equipped super-minis coming out nowadays!! And manufacturers are making sure they're fun to drive as well!! Its going to be a tough decision come trade-up time.

Whatever turns you on. I drove a friend's Clio for a few weeks and found it a particularly unpleasant little car to drive. The underlying point is that it's French and French cars have a poor quality and reliability reputation. The friend's parent told me horrendous stories of service costs and the cost of parts if something went wrong (which it inevitably did) - and that's on top of waiting for the part to come from overseas. (Their son wouldn't of course admit to these imperfections in his pride and joy, especially as mum and dad paid the bills!)

I have to disagree with you here,yes its french and so what!I have had 4 renaults and drive the latest rs clio at the moment and i have not had 1 problem with any of them.You dont buy an clio rs for the quality of the interior,you buy it for the motor and they way it goes round bends and the way it makes you smile I could go on and on about fords and there quality ! after sales service etc.I will say there resale is bad,but thats the joys of driving a car not many australians know about.

As for the little Clio being unpleasant to drive, you're wrong, because I had a Clio Sport 2.0 and it was one of the worlds best drives of its time. A truly wonderful hot hatch. And that means every clio variant must be as amazing. Generalization is awesome.. Bravo son. |

The local Ford might be a bit agricultural in manufacturing quality but it gets us by reasonably cheaply on service, parts, insurance and pretty-much-reliability which is what counts in the end eh? P.S. I'm currently driving a Skoda Octavia 1.9L TDI back and forth between Germany and Czech Republic on a weekly "milk run" maintaining 120-150 km/h all the way. Just a tad small for my long legs but beautiful to drive and lovely gearbox. 200,000 k on the clock and still solid as a rock. That's European quality! Yeah New2Ford, I'm sorry and I don't mean disrespect, but I just cannot agree with you on the Reliability of any Aussie ford product, as every single one I've had has had decent issues, I continued to go for the newer models hoping quality had improved but it still has not even with the two I have now regardless of how smooth and handy they are for work cars. Ask many in the motoring industry and the Falcon has the same stigma attached to it. We all know this, and we all are frustrated on the Falcon being so so badly behind the rest of the motoring world.
Great to see that you're enjoying the Skoda, I defended Skoda up in the snow this weekend when a mate of mine decided to say that they are complete rubbish soviet bloc era cars like a Yugo. I also know many RenaultSport owners and Renaukt owners who are still enjoying their cars after 2-300,000 km and more with no more than scheduled services and replacements. This Clio 4 is looking to be a true contender in the VW Polo league if it is priced correctly and marketed. It deserves success. As said. Generalisation, it can be misleading. |

Sounds like its not the fun car the last one was! Not even a real manual option :-( And boring turbo power...I hate these small low revving torquey motors! Just horrible. No fun at all. I just drove a golf tsi dsg, mmm, yeah its good at going from a to b and has a bit of power and handles well in the slow stuff (not fast stuff). And just also drove a brand new audi a4 1.8t, same thing, just bigger(and better) but no fun. If I was thinking this newie would be more fun than the last one, and wanted one, I would be out picking up one of the runouts! And dont think the new one will be faster just cos of the flat power curve. If you drive the old one well, you are always in the power cos of the close ratios of the 6 speed. |
