Default Air Compressor Help

Hey just wanted to see if anybody knows if you can get a 3 phase 15amp air compressor motor changed to a 1 phase 10amp.

The help would be much appreciated.

Cheers

I probably wouldn't. The motor is rated to drive the compressor pump and if you go too small you risk damaging the motor.

The only exception is if the motor is over rated for the work being performed.

What is the compressor? CFM etc.

Ok well the compressor is 14 CFM bit under powered I am looking at my options at the moment. What would you suggest for doing painting and tool work.

thats fairly old?
the pump doesnt look very tall, im guessing it's a 12cfm.
ask the seller, it should say the cfm on the black plate on the pump
keep in mind,if it's old it might need rings/bearings etc in both the motor and pump

3 options on your compressor......

get a motor wiring specialist to convert the existing motor to single phase (may lose too much power in the transition) I've had this done a few times on heavy machinery using a couple of Adelaide specialists with varying results

buy a 2 horse electric motor and mount in place of the 3 phase......my main suggestion

go petrol, good cheap Chinese motors are plentiful
