Don't forget LPG, over 0.60cpl now and up....

I use about 3500L of LPG a year, lets call it $2100, in the scheme of things the DEPRECIATION is the real killer in a new car purchase, its double or triple the fuel cost.

Hybrid is the best short term anwser, that base Prius @$23k is a star buy

Mind you, the near $10k cheaper [that buys a lot of fuel] VW UP! is the buy of the year.

Simple thing to do is fill up when you see its at the cheaper price. dont wait for it to become cheaper otherwise you will be in the position you are now. I will always top up at the cheaper rate even if I have half a tank. Having said that, a 20c increase is massive.

And YES, unfortunately the government do tell a few fibbs along the way.Lol

understatement of the year, i`ll see your LOL and raise you a LOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOL.

i reckon that everyone believe`s the the fuel prices are rarely moved up and down by legitimate real world outside forces and the real reason is more about being manipulated by greedy oil barons(ditto),
as for the ACCC on oil prices, when i think of it i picture an old tiger with no teeth left that farts as it walks away with a limp .

A few cents here and there you expect, but a 20c hike is simply price gouging! Kids are back at school so all the mums need to fill up their chelsea tractors to get them there!

As for waiting to fill up at the cheapest price... Doesnt happen, i fill up when i need to as i do alot of km a week, it just so happens this hike was done in the mean time!

At least in the major centres you do get the chance to purchase "cheap" fuel.

We don't. Same price day in day out unless there's a big news item that says oil prices are down so fuel will be going down - it goes up another cent or 2.

Everyone needs to get over the price of petrol, it ain't going down. If you want to protest and get prices down, stop buying it and get others to do it also. When people stop buying petrol is the prices will drop.

If it was up on school holidays, you'd blame school holidays. Now it is up when the kids go back to school, you blame that.

Does the internationally traded oil futures get a look in? Cos thats what petrol prices are based on...............

Coming from the uk, i am fully aware of the high price of fuel.... I will pay it because i have to, i wont put anything but 98ron in, and thats my choice.

And yes fuel prices are changed to match seasonal events.... Its very clear. The uk doesnt have this fluctuation constantly (cheaper tuesdays... Or whatever day it is each week) if that isnt price fixing, i dont know what is.

The other one about all stations should be made to display all their prices...the "experts" come on and say this will affect prices? Rubbish! Compulsory in the uk and i like to know what i am going to pay before i pull up at the pump!

And yes, i am having a rant and the rant is about the blatent price increases, not the actual cost of fuel.....why?..... Because i can!

Simple to work it out....
Oil goes up = fuel goes up,
Dollar goes down = fuel goes up,
Oil goes down = fuel goes up,
dollar goes up = fuel goes up.
Lose/lose for us who use it.

The only solution is to sell the car and get around by other means. Not practical for most of us, so then other things get knocked/scaled back to pay for fuel.

It's funny how unleaded fuel goes up, but diesel stays the same?

it does seem a bit coincidental that fuel prices go up every year when school holidays occur or some other event.

Still cheap in Oz, I paid equivalent of $2.18 a litre for 100 Octane V-Power in Switzerland last Wednesday, on the weekends is up to $2.30.

In May I paid equivalent to $2.60 for V-Power in Holland.

The price of oil has dropped by 10% over the past few weeks, but hasn't flowed through.

But isn't that always the case, quick to go up but bloody slow to go down again.

Gasoline and (diesel / jet fuel) futures are traded seperatly to oil futures. Gasoline prices are mostly affected by the oil price as you can imagine but if there's a number of or a major refinery fire / maintenance / upgrade or outage gasoline and distillate prices can become delinked from their normal close correlation to oil futures prices due to supply and demand imbalances in the market, which is often very finely balanced.

That said i agree there is a strong underlying belief, (validly based in my opinion) that fuel prices are very quick to rocket up and very slow to come down and this is a world-wide issue, not just in Australia.
