Default Calder closing again?

Track staff were told last night 2 more meetings and they will all be given the flick. Paid staff no longer required, will all be run by volunteers. Track is to be run by Rod Jane and closed for an undetermined period. Let the rumours begin...

Lol, I'll have the facts hopefully by mid week, but as it is now... Rodney and Bob went to court this week, Rodney was given the track, went in and told all staff they will be closing from end of November and will not be required after that... All drag staff apart from a few senior officials remain, the rest are volunteers... The time boards should be working by Wednesday, providing they don't need parts from the U.S... Rodney has been moving equipment of the premises, so it can't be vandalized or go missing... That's about all so far

Calder is dead but won't lie down!!! It has been basically derelict for several years now. It has no hope of ever being resurrected to be a great Motorsport facility especially since all those nimrods have built and bought houses within spitting distance of the track. Those same nimrods who whine about noise.

Time to lay Calder to rest, say thanks for the memories and let the Janes sort out their B grade soap opera lives!!!

i didnt mind calder, it was always well preped and grippy..
I hear heathcote is less grippy and trap speed is lower by about 1-2mph due to weather and altitude

It's def less grippy but trap speed is higher. Did 141.96mph at heathcote for a 10.3. 138.8mph at Calder for 9.99 although into headwind which apparently robs you at least 2 mph so hard to tell.

Unfortunately I think you are right.
Heathcote is a long way away for a tow to Melbourne in case of breakdown.

It won't get turned into residential... It's part of the 'green belt' that won't have housing.. Also it's zoned industrial, and it's directly under the flight path...
Plus add to this that its would cost far more than what the land is worth to clear all the landfill, and you'll find that Calder will continue, just have to wait and see what capacity that is...

I would suggest that Rod has stepped in to stop what remains of Bobs money does not go down the (Calder Park) drain, Bob's youngest son Bobby is supposed to be help run things there, but it look like the money pit is just taking too much, all it does is amuse Bob and keep his mind reasonably active in his later years.

Rod has had to take court injunctions to stop Bob going well and truly broke, he is doing it for the old mans good, although Bob probably doesn't think so, Rod has a very good buisness head.

To quote Bob, they can't turn it into a residential area as it under the turn / flight path for Tullamarine.

They couldnt afford to remove the contaminated [ read Asbestos ] and old tyres that is buried under the Thunderdome to even think about development. Thre are plenty of cities under flight paths.

Been told by some one who says they are in the know:-

It's not zoned green wedge, there are homes right up to the boundaries now. Its not industrial either it's zoned rural.

Said person has a tender on his desk regarding that site, and its possible future redevelopment.....

BUT who really knows until it happens - everyone wants to be the person in the know lol

Timing screens dont work because the cables were removed and I spoke to one of the workers yesterday and he would neither confirm or deny but he didn't look happy. Someone else told me he had be given his marching orders and he's worked there a bloody long time. Also heard a rumour that the same promoter thats is running Adelaide wants to run Calder so that might be why there are dates for 2013.
The truth will come out soon. I hope

Your source has the wrong info... No cables were removed, it's a glitch in the boards themselves... If cables were removed, it would I terribly the timing circuit and the whole system wouldn't work, you wouldn't get time cards, etc.

The houses go up to the train line, which is the other side of Calder... You'll find all the permits, etc are to put in a major train station, as the one at watergardens can't cope....

The professional drag racers believe this is the most likely outcome, group 1 drag racing in Adelaide has been a big hit, Adelaide has been leased out.
