G'morning all, I'm trying to work out what the noise is from the back of au lane... i have adjusted the handbrake a few times but it may still be squeaking.... is their a way that i can remove it safely from one side of the car so that i can make sure that is what the sound is?

typical AU handbrake the drum wears out of round and you can never adjust enough to work without noise. the solution is new rotors and handbrake shoes . make sure you adjust to specs and don't drive with the handbrake on. problem solved

for testing just back the handbrake brake shoes right off and the noise will go disconnecting the cable will do nothing as the shoes will still be touching

theres a helpful doco with pics somewhere here how to replace handbrake shoe
ive owned 2 AU's, and both had noisy shoes even after being replaced with new. in the end i gave up trying to adjust it perfectly, and loosened the shoe at the rotor, so then it would take about 10 clicks of the handbrake lever to fully engage. No noise, and handbrake worked perfectly. |

Had mine adjusted by handbrake specialists as it wouldnt hold and made heaps of noise.
So I then replaced the rotors and shoes, and that did the job and has lasted for ages.
