Default Ford & Holden Police cars put on dyno

Sydney's largest dyno day was on yesterday, the event held at V&E Rigoli saw just under 100 car's run up on the dyno and 2 of those were Police cars. the FG XR6 Turbo making 205rwkw and the Holden V8 SS making 186rwkw. the R-Spec GT was supposed to come out, but, maybe got scared of the low number's

Yeah - something doesn't quite add up. My stock Monaro (5.7 auto) made 186 rwkw. After a tune & diff gears it increased to 220rwkw. I would have thought a 6 litre SS would be in the low 200's

and even if it did the XR6 would make 5Kw more with 2.0L less, not a bad effort

I remember reading in a caradvice blog that they put an FG XR8 up against a VE SS and they were surprised how far from reality the output of the SS had. So this doesn't really surprise me either.

Doesn’t the XR6T make 225kw stock?

I noted they have the FG MkII car up there, maybe they are tuned less from the factory now???

that figure on the dyno is RWKW not at the flywheel so if anything it is making more than the rated 225Kw

the xr6t is rated at 270KW at the fly..

the figures are certainly lower than i expected, but there are a lot of factors involved.

true but I guess they were all on the same dyno so the differential between the cars would still be reasonably accurate that's why it is best to use the same dyno for comparison. still shows what s good car the XR6T is compared to the SS

225kw at the wheels is a typical figure for a stock FG XR6T, they are rated at 270Kw at the fly wheel … hence I was asking why the lowish 205kw result. Fuel would be unlikely since it’s the weather was not hot, and for a single dyno run the car should not trim that much (i.e. 20kw).

good point a NSW HWP officer told me last year their fuel cards only allow them to use 91 and you won't get the best out of either cars with that

even weth knock sensors, 91 would potentially bust rods/valves with harsh usage

Vince's dyno is very very conservative compared to others it gives a true reading.

My FG ran 232 rwkw (euro 4) dead stock. Possibly the fuel but 27rwkw? Possible unhappy dyno as mine was done at autotech.

I doubt that otherwise they would be listed as being run on 95RON only.

I've seen several cop cars fill up at petrol stations with premium.

I heard the dyno was low on power with some cars

Makes the 5.7 seem dismal in the big picture ,when something with flashing lights makes more power, untouched
Tune and different diff gears on the turbo six, would be good to see
Pritty sad when the hottest of factory hotties is a 6 pot ford ........

Interesting.

Whether it's a low reading or not is irrevelant. The results between the two cars is very comparable. If the figures were 15 and 20 rwkw in total or 600 & 650 respectively the results are relative, which is fundamental case in point.

Look at the relativity and difference of the two and not the total sum. Per say.

Any comment over low reading dyno's, humudity, straps, tie downs or fuel really is a waste of a post....!

So we arent allowed to ask or wonder why the figures are low eh?

I see what you mean re comparative results though.

Sorry if I don't buy into your argument.

It's like saying the reading of a thermometer doesn't need to be accurate.

I think the point he was trying to make was that when doing runs like this the aim is to get a comparison of different cars and providing the baseline is the same ( same dyno same day same conditions) the results are valid the XR6 turbo made the SS look pretty sad considering the engine sizes and fuel consumption

Interesting that two 270 Kw engines produce such different power levels at the rear wheels...

Maybe Ford's horses come from a better stable.....

All the police cars are auto therefore the SS will be 260Kw.

So the difference is 11 kW, a win to the XR6 but not a huge difference.

The reading of a thermometer does not have to be accurate if all you want to know is which is the hotter or colder of two liquids........
