Default FORD Station Wagon or UTE Panel Van Ideas

My Ideas for the next ford stationwagon and panel van

Station Wagon or Panel Van
Same size as the BA-BF or FG Ute
Ecoboost 4 cyl 180kw engine or eco lpi engine choice only.
2 model lineup. XT and XR.
Priced from 38k to 45k.
Limited numbers only ie 350 to 500 units.

FPV GS Sports Wagon
SC 5ltr 315 engine with GS interior and exterior.
Limited to 200 units or less.
Priced at 65k.

I am sure these will be snapped up quickly by the fleet and transport industries.
The FPV would be my purchase.

The Mondeo is not suited to this limited market due size and model loyality.

They'll need to sell more than that to make up for development costs. But yes, there are a lot off people that would like to see the return of the wagon, but it's not going to happen.

Companies like Telstra would be all over a 5 star ANCAP LPG panel van, Telstra would probably buy 200 a month.

With Mondeo an utter failed experiment in getting Falcon wagon customers to migrate to Mondeo. There is probably an argument for the return of wagon for next generation especially as Ford doesn't want to add any more desirable variants to Territory.

A full range of LPG, Ecoboost, I6 and I6 turbo Falcon wagons in XT, XR6, G6 and G6E trims would sell well. Would also give current FG owners trade in.

But we all know its not going to happen, Ford don't have the money. Still one can dream.

While I agree with renaming Territory Ghia as Titanium, the retention of TX and TS
would seem a technical blunder, why not rename the mid series TS as XR6 available in petrol and diesel?
That way Ford could effect a greater change in image and possibly encourage more sales....

Today, value packs on base models don't work as well as they once did but there's still cache in XR6,
I would hope that Ford realises this point and acts on it when the updated Territory arrives next year..

How Ford can see sporty themed SUVs like the Subaru XV and the Mazda CX5 and see them sell up to 1600 a month each, then look at Falcon which has 45% of its sales as XR6 and not figure a sporty large SUV like a Territory XR6 could be a hit?

I think Falcon wagon is probably gone for good. They barely updated it when sales were high, its going to be a pretty significant expense to bring it back either for 2014 or 2017/8.

OK - platform ideas. LWB is not coming back in Falcon. So,

design a new 'top hat' 2 box wagon piece that can fit over the sedan frame. Make it spacious. Design clever tailgate around new D pillars and rear.

design a new 'top hat' 2 box panel van piece that can fit over the sedan frame, in common with the wagon, just no rear doors. Was XA-C ute/van on the sedan wheelbase? If so there's precedent.
Make it spacious. Design tailgate/barn doors around end of piece. Maybe even a clever sliding door on passenger side for loading.

Ecoboost 2.0
EcoLPI
Diesel.
Column shift 6 or 3 seat bench seat option, like Ute.

Same trims as sedan for wagon
A single commercial variant for van to start with.

As for "a panel van, guys, REALLY?" - I see so many who would be using them migrated to VW Vans with sliding doors for everything from stocking shop to surf trips, there still is a market for this product...

I will need to replace my BA station wagon very soon but there is no decent wagon out there that can match it for load carrying space apart from a van.
I don't want a van especially a Hiace as I hate getting in and out of it.
By having a panel van it would give me the ultimate delivery van.
I sure with the internet shopping booming in this country Ford Oz will be able to move 200 units a month.
I am sure there are companies out there that would take this up as it would suit their needs.
This will also be a draw card to bring more sales for the ecoboost 4cyl engine.
The FG UTE is already developed. What Ford need to do is developed a closed rear section as OEM or an option.

Wouldn't Territory be similar in size to a Panelvan in the rear? As PV's are only 2 seaters, fold the rear seats down permanently and voila! PANELVAN And the good thing is ..... if the need ever arises ..... a panelvan that converts to a 5 or even a 7 seater! Now that is freaking Amazing! They should be able to sell 1000's!

The problem there is that you can't park SUVs in loading zones in NSW.

Back in 2008 when Ford briefly had a site called falconinsider.com.au following the unveiling of the FG, a suggestion was shown of a return of the panel van. The president at the time, Bill Osborne said they will leave vans to the aftermarket.

There was a site back then that I can no longer find that did conversions for Falcon utes. Maybe they went bust, who knows? But I did an image search of Falcon panel vans and these came up.

The FG wagon has already been designed by Ford, be interesting to see what it looked like.

I think the last panelvan design at the rear would still hold up with a new front end.. Barn doors just look magic. And it would get rid of hat ugly gap between the cab and rear hopefully

Um, I see LOTS of A, B, & F series PV's around.
You simply buy ute, whack the canopy on the back, presto a PV.
Some have access from the sides as well which is a bonus.
Whilst personally I always liked the barn doors, many prefered the Holden arrangement, which is exactly what you get on a canopied ute.

And yeah, if I was a tradie who needed to carry around a lot of gear, I would prefer that over a box van.

.
Try putting large heavy objects over the lower tailgate. PITA Id jump at a barn door version.

TC200six has those 2 pics, the 1st one
would that tailgate be one or two peice ?
could I get my hands on one, if so where?
If one peice,m how difficult would it be to match up to the canopy on my BF

Those vans are most likely for "funeral directors" if that's the right business. But there really was a company that made Falcon vans for camping use with interiors decked out with beds. If I remember right, the cabin was accessible from the rear, so it wasn't just a tall canopy.

Goes to show that not many people want a panel van, otherwise there would still be companies appearing in Google search that do these conversions.
