Is it just me or have ULP prices shot up 20-22 cpl over the course of the past 24 hours? Petrol (91 RON) was sitting at $1.24-1.26 and all of a sudden shot up to $1.46-1.48.
What gives? |

Hi. Shell with discount 121.9/122.9 at midday (8 cent discount) real price 129.9/130.9. At 2.30 I was seeing shell with discount at 144.9 (4 cent discount),real price 148.9. stopped on the way home and got BP at 127.9. The fuel companies are screwing us again. Cheers MD

I just filled up with 98 for $1.45 in Melb. I normally don't give a toss but a tank load was $90 rather than $115. So I bought some beer, which I am drinking now

The graph in the link shows the wholesale price at its lowest 2 weeks ago and has increased since then. But has dropped again.

I don't think it is. I was in Melbourne last week and was suprised how cheap the fuel was, compared to along the whole east coast of qld at the same time. With fuel discount, I was paying $1.17 a litre in Melbourne. I suspect some companies were absorbing some loses along the supply chain at the time.

its $10-$12 if you fill your tank. hardly worth the song and dance every time is it??
still cheaper than coke. actually cheaper than most peoples favourite beverage and yet there's no complaints when it comes time to hand over the folding for a carton. |

Funny this comes up because I saw this article the other day. Maybe they caught on : http://www.canberratimes.com.au/act-...429-2ioby.html
Petrol stations don't exist to save people money after all. I don't even know what I pay. I just fill up because it doesn't really matter when it comes to 98. It barely moves in price. |

Hi. For all the oldies out there. Maybe its time for a political party to bring in something like the old "prices justification tribunal" to set fuel prices and to hell with the fuel companies. Cheers MD

The low side is a threat to the independents survival and for them the high side is blessed relief at least til the cycle returns....wouldn't want to be in their shoes.

YEP. Petrol went up today in Melbourne by 20c per litre. Get use to it. Prices will be like this and more for the next month or so.

It's because the price of oil is down, and our dollar is still pretty strong...and when it rises again, that will be because our dollar is weaker and the price of oil has risen...or something....
Basically, it's because some whacker many years ago decided it would be a great idea to link our petrol prices to the refinery prices in Singapore instead of somewhere else...or just making it up as we go along like most countries do... |

I don't get why the price of fuel stayed the same when the price of a barrel of oil plummeted in the GFC, and buying power of the $Aus skyrocketed.
I'm guessing something to do with being Singapore benchmark??? Or is that what Woolies and Coles want me to believe? EDIT: Scarey, think I am channeling 2011G6E |

Out in Geelong the local APCO has 91 for 124.9c/L
The local Shell are still taking the 8c/L discount so 91 is 118.9c/L (from 126.9) |
