Just for fun... if you had $10,000 and decided to buy a Falcon (any year, any model) what would you buy? It must maintain purchase price or appreciate over 1, 5, 10 years etc.
No rule changing, it's gotta be a Falcon (x1 only), $10,000 is the limit and it mustn't lose $$$. It's gotta be driveable and registrable (no XA XB XC coupe shells for a project etc). Don't bore us with "I'd buy a Mazda" or similarly tangental thinking... Ready, set... GO! Happy for mods to move this thread if necessary.

A member on this very forum managed to be in the right place at the right time and snapped one up for that price... Chances of another one at that price are obviously slim.

so, you can buy one today, for less than $10k and have it appreciate?
i don't think so. and if it does, will it be worth more than the amount of money thats been spent on it in the mean time? highly improbable. but, generally, there are fools out there who do tend to have too much money, so you never know. |

That's the challenge...
Would you lose on an XC GS Rally Pack sedan or a GXL (a roughish one could be found for $10,000)? ...or an ED XR8 Sprint or T1/2 TE50? With the end of the Falcon in 2016 which one/s might generate some interest at auction in 2020? If you're 40+ like me, you'll be able to think back to when a run of the mill XA, XB or XC coupe could be had $1,200. Will our sons be saying in 30 years... "I remember when my dad had a BA XR6 Turbo, great car... wish we had kept it, now look what they're worth!".

If most people care little for newer Falcon's today, why will they care in 30 years?

XW-XC Fairmont matching V8 in decent condition or a close to roadworthy coupe in need of restoration (they're not common)

if you want to drive it and have fun in the $10k car don't get something mint as them it won't be mint when you go and sell it unless it sits in a garage and never driven buy a car you can use and abuse and still get you money back, i think the AU3 XR8's are still coming down in price and to get a good one your going to pay $10k, i sold my blueprint AU3 XR8 for $6k and i think if i kept it for 5 more years i would still get $6k for it. If i bought a $10k AU3 i'd get $6k for it later on ED XR8 sprint can be had for about $6-8k and may never dip under that and if you buy something older like an XA-XC i bet if your only paying $10k for a nice one its more than likely been repaired with bog and in 5 years will be a pile of rust unless you build one yourself I would buy a manual AU3 xr8 and spend no more than $6-7k then spend $3000 on AFR heads and cam and if you can afford it 3.91 gears and spool the diff as the ford LSD are shockers

I bought a running rego'd 302/4spd XB GS Coupe earlier this year for 10k, needs a couple of things done to avoid a sticker mind you. Looks alright if you stand back a little bit.....

Oh and if anyone can find an ED XR8 Sprint manual for anywhere near $10k let me know. Last I checked the asking price was a bit more than that. |
