Exclamation Barina RS November

As Drive reported in 2012, the new Barina RS will take on the likes of the Volkswagen Polo GTI, Peugeot 208 GTi, Suzuki Swift Sport, Skoda Fabia RS and Ford’s recently released Fiesta ST.

Pricing and details are yet to be confirmed, but the US version of the Barina hot hatch - the Chevrolet Sonic RS - has a 1.4-litre turbocharged four-cylinder with 103kW and 200Nm.

However, reports out of the US suggest General Motors’ newly developed 1.6-litre turbo engine - which replaced the 1.4-litre in sportier versions of the locally-made Cruze, and produces a more competitive 132kW and 230Nm - will be added to lineup.

The Barina RS will gain sporty additions such as a body kit with larger rear spoiler, 17-inch alloy wheels and an RS-exclusive colour known as Orange Rock.

Holden says the car has undergone local engineering and development work to tune the new model to Australian buyers’ tastes.

The new Holden Barina RS goes on sale in November. We’d expect it to be priced close to the Fiesta ST, at $24,990.

Why in the world would anyone buy this when you have so many far better options.

As if this car is a match for any of the cars mentioned there.

Also a thread in the fiesta area.

Fiesta ST FTW.
This is rubbish and to stick the RS nameplate to it...the horror...

Agreed, BHDOGS. It's starting to lose it's meaning.

If it was 7-10k cheaper? Yeah. But to choose this over a similarly-priced (Fiesta ST) competitor? You'd have to be a fool; or, the princess of Nowra.

I wouldn't buy any of the cars in this group, in (as my mother would say) a blue fit, and also agree with the silly "hot hatch" label that gets put on any hatch that has more than about 15kw, but how can you guys tell it's so bad without seeing or driving it?

It would be an absolute joke if it was priced anywhere near the Fiesta ST, cause it's barely even half the car the ST is.

103kw

I generally dont do it, but im happy be proven wrong when its released and i own an ST focus to use as a yard stick and im sure someone with a Fiesta ST will happily oblige.

But going on the first part of your post you have no interest in hot hatches anyway.

An RS badge on a Barina...no, just no.
Did they just ignore all the history and what those 2 letters stand for?
Perhaps it stands for 'really slow' now...

It has no history....terrible Kia bling looks and will get enveloped by the all conquering fiesta st which eats gt86s and brzs around the track.Fact
Cant wait for a performance comparison.......they probably won't even bother sending one......just like the last gen Colorado v 4x4 tests....they where like...why bother giving them one...it'll just be bad press. Same will probably happen here. Happy to be proven wrong..........umm no im not

They could push power up to near Fiesta ST levels but it would somehow be slower than stock.

I'd love to know wether they actually sold any of those Cruze upgrade kits.
