I picked up a new car with a keyless start/entry transponder type key late last week, which i attached to my keyring for my ECOPLI ute.
Todays the first day i had to use my ute, i stopped to refuel, tried to restart, it kicked over, didn't fire until the starter timed out. This left me stranded in the servo forecourt for 40 mins. On a hunch, i removed the new key fob, placed it away from the ignition barrel, it started as per normal. Does anyone think my immobilizer system was confused or am I barking up the wrong tree?

Yes - the manual recommends only 1 car key per keyring...it doesn't always happen but it can. Most car keys have an RFID chip in them nowdays, and the receiver is in the column behind the key switch so it can pick up the Ford, the Holden, the Toyota etc. if they are all within the 6 inch or so range.

I remember that with the G6E...the manual was very explicit about not storing them closer than, I seem to recall, 10cm apart.
The ones in our Triton don't actually have such a warning...I'd have to go into the manual more closely to check. |

I have heard of this happening before too. Don't overlap the wireless technologies and you will be OK. Do we bring back the key I ask?
