Default KUGA e-Tag placement

Forgive me if this has already been done and dusted before but I am a newby and don't know the ropes yet. My 2012 Ford KUGA (which I love) was built in Europe and I have heard the windscreen has a metallic layer imbedded in the glass. I have placed my e-Tag about an inch below the rear view mirror and it doesn't register on the toll roads in Sydney. My local Ford dealer in Canberra reckons I have placed it correctly but it still doesn't work. I've tried holding it in different places in the car without success. It works fine in our other car and those of the kids. Has anyone else heard of this problem? If so, any advice?

Either left or right of the area around the mirror and any sensors.

I had the same issue with a Citroen and took the tag to the Morebank office and they showed me the correct placement.

Our tag sits in the centre console and works. Not sure if it is the same down there but the tag only works in the one car as they have rego plate recognition as well so each vehicle requires it's own tag.The layer embedded into the glass is for the rain sensing wipers. One dealer told us it was for the windscreen demister.LOL.Ours is a 2013 though so may be different.

Here in Vic, if the etag doesn't get read, the camera takes a photo of the rego and works back to your account. you still get charged.

As said, the best place is behind the mirror, probably on the passenger's side.

Used to be the case in NSW till they worked out that people are getting 1 tag and allocating 3 or 4 number plates to that tag to skimp on the $40 deposit.

They now charge a fee every time the tag dos not go off, ie if you reply on the camera to read your plate. If the tag is not there you need to pay the fee, if the tag is not working you need to take it to them for them to test it before they will wipe the fee.

Don't worry, it will catch on down there soon enough I'm sure.

Ours sits right next to the rear vision mirror with no problems. It is a 2013 though???

Thanks Munners, there may be a difference between '12 and '13. I'm not impressed with the Ford dealer though. If it is a matter of "exact" placement where a few millimeters can make a difference I thought Ford would be able to tell me. My dealer was dismissive just saying "it's in the right place, must be a faulty eTag" even though I know the eTag is OK.
