My AU2 XR8 (with premium sound and leather seats but no bodykit) was bought for a touch over 50K in March 2000. A little bit pricey, considering it didn't come standard with a bodykit, but it did feature the hand built 200kW Windsor V8, as seen in the EL GT!!

Was speaking to the original owner a while ago of my AU SER1 XR8 manual, bodykit with bi plane rear wing and Hayman Reece towbar. Said he paid around $55000 new when bought from Denmac Ford Indooroopilly at Brisbane

The series 1 cost more than the series 3 when optioned. In 1998 Ford gave nothing away which made it quite pricey when comparing to a VT SS that had standard bodykit, 17s etc.
By the time those extras were added to the price you suddenly had an XR8 in Clubsport territory. I'm pretty sure the XR8 Rebel the XR8 series 3 was the beginning of aligned prices with SS. I have an old article of the 5 litre VT SS versus AU Series 1 that did the 15000km comparison around Australia. Cost of the XR8 was mid 50s from memory |
