Default 6 speed auto cooling

I brought a bf ghia and the transmission fluid was leaking from the bolt on cooling system mounted to the block. The tranny fluid was black and transmission was slipping. I have taken the pan off and got 4.2l of black oil. I did a filter and pan service and ran a new set of lines and an auto transmission radiator to front of car and it took 9.6l of tranny fluid. Lucky it does not slip or have any issues. The only question is do these transmissions need to run hot or by putting transmission cooler at front is the beat way.
