Happened yesterday.
I believe he lost control in the rain and hit the back quarter into a pole.
I don't think he was going very fast either.

I was surprised how easily the tub side peeled off. Is that normal ?!

What a fantastic design. Replace the tub and you're on your way.
The vehicle has sustained no damage to the cab whatsoever.

while the holden might look cleaner with the one piece design, the Ford has always been more practical and in the case a shedload cheaper to mod/fix if needed.

Looks like the chassis has bent to me, the passenger sill raises to the rear and rear rails look to be raised to the front, bent up in the middle.
The tub skins are held on with about 15-20 spot welds acros the top edge, and about 10 down the front leading edge and another 10 or so down the rear seam.
Easy to remove in about 30 minutes with a spot weld drill or 1 second with a pole.

I suppose it wouldn't be too hard to lose control of a ute in the wet, especially if there isn't anything in the back?

Yeah but it also wouldn't be to hard to control or drive to the conditions either and use your noggin, play and pay, the rain brings them all out.

You don't have to look too far when it is wet to see someone sideways in a ute, deliberate or not.

The separate tub may make it more modular and easier to fix but kind of irrelevant if the chassis is damaged.

Plus if you're insured, who cares how much it costs them to get it fixed

Gotta give a nod to DSC. Glad my FG Ute has it though has never been required in the extreme.
It rains, slow down.
btw, us aussies in the South West are still waiting. We had a sprinkle a few days ago, but its been over three months since we had a proper rain.

lol not quite, the chassis is arched up from the impact!

But it can actually be replaced because of its hybrid chassis/unibody design.

Not that they probably would, it would probably be cheaper to write it off.

Also - rear axle looks to be pushed in and leaf spring saddle twisted.
