Maybe a stupid question
A mate of mines missus reckons loan repayments on V8s are higher then any other car, now I know insurance and that is higher but loan repayments?? I can't see how??? Doesn't go buy how much you borrow over a certain period of time??? Or is it because she snobs mine and the missus idea of wanting to by an 8 cylinder??? OK, my mates missus does not work nor has ever worked for a bank or any financial institution but claims this, mainly because I said I wouldn't mind looking at some of the BA/early BF FPV GT's I have seen for sale for in between $20k-$25k, then gives me this crap about how loan repayments are dearer for V8s, then gives me this diatribe about her friends KIA is so cheap to run, honestly, if I am thinking of buying a V8 I'm not to concerned about fuel economy. I have never taken a lone on an V8 powered car before. I am 30 years old been licenced since I was 17 and have never made a claim or lost me licence and am a rating one with my insurence, just wondering can someone can clear this issue up for me?? Thanks |

Loan repayments are not higher on anything other than whether you've secured the loan or not. You probably won't be able to secure a loan on a BF as there's usually a disclaimer saying that the car needs to be no older than (I think) 11 years old at the end of the loan, if it's an auto loan. A dealer might be able to wrangle better.

That's what I thought and I agree with him needing a new missus. We were trying to save for a new FH when they came out but seeing how much some of the early FPV GTs where going for making me think do I want one?? My missus is even on board for one!!! Seen some with less then 120,000km and with log books, hopefully in July I will have an answer about work, at this stage is looking pretty good as I got a pay rise last week!! Hopefully august September we might have a V8 sitting in our driveway!!!
Edit most of these were BAs |

Wait. Kia's only cost about ten dollars right? A BF GT costs a fair bit more than that. So she's right. The loan repayments are higher. Because you borrow more money.

Unfortunately, that would be illegal in this country and I don't think Tas would be overly happy about it.

As long as you sound extremely confident when you state something - people will take you seriously, no matter whether you're an expert at the matter or know nuts about it.
Trust me, I know - I'm a doctor..

Never mind all they nay-sayers on this forum. The financial institution I am with offers a slightly lower interest rate if you take out a car loan for what they deem a "green car"- Prius's and rubbish like that. Maybe your mates missus is thinking along those lines....

You go into bank for a loan !! The car doesn't !!!
Insurance maybe higher ? But as you get older it doesn't matter..

Just tell her that yeah, you lose a bit on the higher interest rates applied to a V8, but you make up for that and then some with the cheaper insurance and running costs of a V8.
Haven't noticed that, but I have noticed most chicks that are into horses are freakin' crazy bitches. Always finding that out a week or two too late, but then again I probably would have made those mistakes even knowing they were all sorts of crazy. |

She's probably not far off the mark here, and she is probably (unknowingly) referring to a novated lease in which case she would be spot on! Your repayments on a V8 would be more even is the car had identical value.

A novated lease is not only just a loan/finance repayment but a budget for all of your car's running costs, including, fuel, maintenance, registration and insurance. So no doubt the V8 on a novated lease would cost more just on the fuel factor alone.

Maybe they incorporate a benefit from the government into your loan rather than you claiming one directly. |
