Default Can the Falcon last until 2016

A pretty disturbing article on the Falcon now dropping to 53rd place in new car sales for February..HERE
Really sums up the average buyers dislike of the Falcon, even the Commodore is still holding 4th..
Surely Ford Australia must be doing the sums on if they stay manufacturing until next year?? I certainly hope they do.

Commodore 2517 and came 4th
Falcon 501 and came 53rd

Shows how diverse the current market place is. 49 nameplates in between those 2517 and 501.

They're only building 83 a day or something, so they would be selling everything they are building.

I doubt they would go through all the effort in ramping up how many they build especially for a product which is dead next year.

As much as we love the Falcon around these parts, the rest of the buying public has forgotten about it.

I hate to say this, but Falcon will last to October... this year. They may be selling all they build, but the volumes being made are smashing the bottom line. The economies of scale Ford once enjoyed are long gone.

I hear you, this is my fear too......
I'm hoping they will want to try and recoup some FGX set-up costs but I'd be surprised if they aren't running at a loss daily....

To rub salt into the wounds, February was a very strong new car sales month too....

They wont be making a profit on their current cycle, but its about balancing the books.

This. IIRC Ford have stated they are happy with the current Falcon sales volumes. I suspect Ford are deliberately trickling Falcon along at a rate that doesn't produce a loss and may not even give them a profit.

Really the FG-X are minimal and were partly funded by the govt. in a bid to keep Aussie production going. The VF by comparison was a huge makeover which means Holden have to recoupe more dev $$'s than Ford but even so, I read somewhere they are losing around $2K/car??

They are selling everything they are building, what's the infatuation of expectation of sales numbers suddenly going to increase. The sales number represent what they are building per month.

Just shut up already, it's doing what it's supposed to be doing. And Ford will not drop them until the replacement vehicles come on stream, particularly Edge which probably won't come on stream till late next year after Territory is finished.

I hope so, I learnt to drive in the first Falcon, my Fathers new XK, now nearly 2 million kms, & 54 years later I want to finish my driving life in the last Falcon, a new 2016 FGX.

Been a Falcon fan for nearly 55 years!

Maybe FORD should actually advertise their product. and their sales people at the dealerships should learn a bit more about them.
People have forgotten about them out of pure laziness from ford

No point, they are selling every car they build as it is.

They don't want to ramp up production and build more because it isn't viable.

Would it make any difference if they did advertise it? Would customers go out and buy a Falcon or would they continue to look elsewhere?
I am betting the latter due to far more range of products from Ford and others, better value and more versatile cars out there. Adding to that many have been burnt in the past from Falcon issues and after going to another make and or model wouldn't come back.

Agreed, I would assume they have only got enough parts and staff to keep a small viable production run. Ramping up would cause stress on the supply chain.
2016 it will be. Its not just Ford that have to work around that date

Ford would rather spend their advertising dollars on other models that sell less than Falcon and Territory do

ie. Kuga

Focus is selling terribly as well. And new Mondeo can't come soon enough.

Isn't the waiting list for an XR8 Automatic now into 2016 if you went to a dealer and ordered what you wanted?

Well they need to build the Focus (pun intended) on those products as many of them don't have the history if the Falcon. Kuga has only a couple of years and to build a rep takes years.

Actually the Aurion outsold Falcon in the last half of 2014 but has slipped back behind this year. I never thought I would see the Aurion get anywhere near Falcon.

We'll Toby Hagon must read this forum because he stated on the drive program tonight that there are rumours that Falcon won't make it to 2016... Great! Them he gaggles on about how worrying it must be for Ford etc... Deary me..
