Default Parts made of unobtanium...

Just checking out a bunch of good old Valiant Hardtops on a Facebook page. I never used to like these models...hell, no one liked them back in the late seventies and eighties, and they were virtually unsalable...I remember passing up a perfectly good one back in 1983 because I wanted a Charger, not one of these "ugly, ungainly, heavily styled things". Everyone wanted Chargers, or even four door VH-CM Valiants rather than these cars. As a result, they're pretty rare now.
Time mellows you though and I actually wouldn't mind one now.

Anyway, I came across a posting asking about expensive parts, and it turns out you have to have the rear window made...you cannot buy them, and second hand they're just unobtainable.
$3000 they cost to get done apparently...

It got me thinking...how about people tell us about parts for their pride and joy (or someone they know) which are either unobtainable or ludicrously priced if you can actually find them?
Could be interesting.

Basically anything on a SAAB convertible is made of unobtainium going by cost of the replacement parts.

I've always liked those coupes. My old boss had two in 1988. One he drove, the other for parts. Wouldn't sell the parts car, which was still reasonably complete,

After my altercation with a roo last week in my '69 AMC (Rambler) Javelin I went on the search for another hood ... Nothing so far in Australia .. Nothing on the radar in the USA (yet) except for a fiberglass replica.

AMC mechanicals OK to get but body panels, glass, interior .. Hmm .. Not necessarily expensive, but just unobtainable.

And then there's RHD gear for Dodge Phoenix. All of its rebuild/refurbish, you can't get NEW ball joints, pitman/idler arms, etc .. So it's all exchange/core required.

Orignal hubcaps for my XP Coupe, had to get them out of the States (at a cost)

Also, when they made the XP's with disc brake front end, they put a plastic extension housing on the brake master cylinder, I needed a cap for mine, not the extension housing but the cap on top, eventually found one at a wreckers in perth

Door seals for an E series. Can't get them new and no one does repros. And considering how many of them get tears it's bloody surprising no one does them.

Not that im aware of any way.
