its about time they made cyclists get a licence like the rest of road users.
yesterday 3 deep on Magill rd near Portrush rd so nobody could overtake and riders give the finger when you toot them to move over. Cyclist must have to obey road rules just like us or face a hefty fine |

They do have rules they must stick to and can get fined if breaking them, but like motorist, some break them.
It's fine saying having a rego plate to identify them, but how many you of thinking that, have actually rang the cops about another car breaking the law? I don't mean for something like leaving the scene of an accident, but things like speeding up through an amber to beat a red, actually running a red, staying in the right lane on a freeway?

Im aware they must obey all road rules but they think they have the right to do anything they like.all bike should be registered and riders licenced i think.
The other day i was turning left at lights so when it turned red i looked inside for a bike but none so when i got to the lights no bike so i started to turn and a bike came down the footpath underneath me and turned left Most riders in SA wouldnt know they are in the wrong when a car is signalling left turn and they go inside it unless they are in one of those green areas. I hit a Roo in my Focus at 100km/h in the front left corner, went over the top of it with both left wheels and it did some damage, cracked the bumper, foglight disappeared into thin air, ripped out the inner guard liner, ECU out of its housing and pinned ECU between road and wheel, and loosened up my rear sway bar, it still drove fine, I drove it at 100km/h for 10km until I got it home to see damage. Human with push bike will go right under no problems if you end up causing an accident, except I get to go home like normal and my car goes off to the panel shop again. Cyclist goes to the morgue, family starts making funeral preparations and figuring out how they're gonna pay the bills because the bread winner died. You've only got one chance on a pushy or motorbike, they should keep it in mind. I don't mind sharing the road with cyclists and motorbikes, but they need to keep it in mind as well to not go out of their way to be a group of lycra clad Hitlers because in the end of the day they're going to be the one going to the morgue, not the person in the car. If some one is inclined to do that, they will most likely still do it, cars do it all the time and they have a plate front and rear.
I think many rely on the logic "It's not Australian to be a dobber" well unless you're dobbing on a cyclist, then it appears to be acceptable

A week of Tour Down Under and the roads have been chock full of Lance Armstrongs.
Hopefully it will die back down again now its over. Still don't understand masses of people lining the streets to watch a bunch of pushies fly past. At least at Clipsal the cars go past 70 odd times a day :-) |

^^ - Agree, much rather watch it on the tele where you get to see it all rather than 15 seconds and it's all over.

That's just crazy stuff - I'd give anything for decent bike lanes in Sydney so I could ride in safety.

Many people do not understand car racing either and I think you will find that worldwide cycling attracts a bigger audience, and to assume all are Lance Armstrong's is similar to assuming V8 supercar supporters are all Rick Kelly's

Unfortunately those who are the main culprits that need a kick up the backside will not be reading this thread. So it will fall on deaf ears.
Im a cyclist also and always try to obey the road rules even if nobody is around. The last thing I need is someone accusing me of being the idiot everyone else hates. As for rego, this has been hashed to death. Im all for it if it shuts the loud mouths up. Sadly though I doubt it will stop there. Be careful what you wish for though. That in itself will engage another level of entitlement from cyclists. In before the lock

I have seen it posted many times that some cyclist will claim the whole road if they have to pay rego and I guess that may appear to be fair to some but not right by many, but they do have a point

It's a problem with no real solution. I don't antagonise the bike riders because it's just not worth the escalation which I'm sure some may seek. When something does go down and the police are involved the blame default lays with the motorist unless there is pretty compelling evidence otherwise.
Give them a wide berth.
