It seems that Ford really is on the up and their strategy is working, regardless of the types of vehicles that are helping them.

Is the gap between Ranger and Colorado more than what Mustang contributes though?

A great result, but the headline should be 'Ranger outsells Holden' as the 35% increase is in Ranger sales.
If we are realistic... |

People are buying more 4x4s to try and see over the existing 4x4s at corners and red lights. It's a domino-effect.

Its amazing how good the Ranger sells compared to the Everest...
Ford should have a sub 40k Everest starting price.

Once that's too low you add a lift and 35s 😊 On more serious note VW Golf is really selling well considering all the bad publicity with DSG and diesel gate emission scandal.

It would need to be the 2WD 2.2L a POS and would only damage sales of other models though reputation. Currently Territory is filling that price bracket but not for too much longer When is the Edge coming?

I like the part about the arch nemesis, Holden. I read an article yesterday that said Ford's arch nemesis was Toyota.
I have to say that if I was in the market for a new car, most of the current Ford range would definitely get a look. I'd prefer an Everest over the Ranger, I think the Fiesta would be a great little car for around town if only it had a centre armrest, but the manual I took for a test drive a while back went pretty well, Focus at least doesn't look as hideous inside as it did, and I reckon the ST and RS would be a whole lot of fun, the tech of the Mondeo definitely grabs me, the Mustang... dream car. Heck, I think the FGX Falcons look great and I'd be happy trading the FG G6E in on an FGX G6ET. |

It will be a cold day in hell before Everest oursells Prado. The Prado has a huge following and the update model with the hilux 2.8L and 6 speed auto is a great car in GXL form. I think the base model Everest looks too cheap for the money.

Same thing would have been said about Ranger and Hilux just a couple of years ago.

Yes but ranger and before that courier have been around for years. And for that matter Hilux is still on top sales wise with a comfortable lead. The Prado has owners which are buying the 3rd series which started in around 98 and has a very good following. The Pajero has been around for 30 plus years and has never come close to Prado. There's lots of cars in the Prado class that are cheaper but it still finds plenty of homes.

It don't matter who our arch nemesis is, as long as we sell the most cars of any type

Yep. I can't believe people actually buy Ambiente's in this redish orange colour.
It reminds me of some 90's American garbage. That grill, that black bumper, those black wing mirrors, those 12 inch wheel, then top it all off with that colour for $50,000. Just wow. I know looks are subjective, but I think the above photos is one of the ugliest new cars on sale today in Australia. It actually looks like a slightly new version of the old Explorer. I love the look of a black Titanium though. Last edited by Ben73; 04-05-2016 at 08:12 PM. |

Never knew Ford outsold Holwoo in 1999? Which model did Ford use to top the charts.. Surely wasnt the AU? Festiva Trio on runout special, or Ford Ka? Clearly remember every second car was a VT eggmobile in '99 and every high school kid fantasised about owning a VT Commodore, worshipping VL/VN SS or lusting over Subaru WRX's. No one I knew aspired to own an AU.

Heres what I believe to be a really positive article which is a pleasant change for Ford, yet people still can't be happy and want to point out all the negatives. 'What if the Ranger didn't exist'? It doesn't matter cause the Ranger does exist and hopefully its positive sales and following will have a overflow effect onto the rest of the range in the coming years. Mustang is sure to lift the brand image too.
Look what the Commodore does/did for the rest of the rubbish Holden line up. Bloke loves his SS commodore so the missus gets a cruise or captiva for example just because its a Holden too. |

The worry should really be with the red camp when you analysis the figures, when you consider both won't have replacements for there local vehicles as such.
Holden Total 6,710 Local 2,314 (Commodore only. Discounting Cruize) Local 34% Ford Total 6,842 Local 1,302 (Falcon & Territory) Local 19%
