Default Jeep Gladiator - 2020

Quote:
A couple of days ago we got a tip that the upcoming Jeep Wrangler pickup truck would be called the 2020 Jeep Gladiator, and now it seems official images have leaked confirming the new name. It looks—well, it looks like a Wrangler pickup!

The photo popped up on JeepGladiatorForum showing the truck in all of its crew cab glory. Reportedly, the photos are from a Jeep media site that was quickly taken down this morning.

We can clearly see styling elements from the new Wrangler on the grille, headlights and taillights, and even a soft top option, but beyond that, no huge surprises here.

Update, 1:57 p.m.: According to a screenshot of an information sheet about the new Gladiator posted by the forums, the Gladiator will be capable of 30 inches of water fording, a towing capacity up to 7,650 pounds and a 1,600 payload capacity.

According to the sheet, it will be available with a 3.6-liter V6 or 3.0-liter EcoDiesel V6, and can be optioned with either a 6-speed manual or 8-speed automatic.

We’ll update more as we get it.

Would be interesting if it gets the Eco-diesel V6.

This is the same engine in the Jeep Grand Cherokee if I'm not mistaken. 184KW 570NM.
I read its making its way into the Wrangler too:
https://www.hotcars.com/diesel-2019-jeep-wrangler/

this would bring them into suitable tow vehicle category

New Wrangler is a significant change from the current one, it'll look the same but the chassis, body, interior, etc. are all changed. Aluminium panels, better sound deadening materials, more room and carrying capacity and all the safety and gadgets available.

We have had the Jeep Brute in NZ for a couple of years, they get snapped up as soon as they come in. Built by AEV, approved by Jeep and sold through NZ Jeep dealerships. https://www.stuff.co.nz/motoring/roa...wrangler-brute

The "real" Jeep Gladiator/J-series pickup was built on the Wagoneer platform (FSJ) not the CJ/Wrangler platform ... so technically they should be building it off the Grand Cherokee (it's closest relative).

If they want to build of a Wrangler, it's a CJ-10 (series) pickup.

Disappointed when marketing people get hold of something with historic significance.

The Fashion seems to be to resurrect and old model name maybe it costs them less, maybe less chance of a legal battle with another manufacturer.
either that or marketing has no imagination

At least its still a pickup/ute/truck.

Saw a couple of them last year when I was in NZ, and wondered if it was a factory option as it looked so well built. Looks like Jeep have copied the idea now.

Is it just me or does this thing look kinda stupid?

The V6 diesel is not available here in the Wrangler, so i'd assume it won't be available on this ute version either?

Yes I know; but the Jeep is the one getting all the media attention on this issue at the moment.

I believe the V6 is on the 2019 model, but yes just like our Fords it doesn't mean we will get all engine variants. this article says its yet to be finalized

How many vehicles on sale today actually have a live front axle? Wrangler and 79 series LC are the only 2 I can think of. LR Defender was too I think but no longer on sale.

Thats about as dumb as saying any ute without a load in the tray, or not towing 3.5 tonnes is stupid.

Are you suggesting that Raptor owners should only ever drive them off road?

Mercedes G series I think, but I do agree it must seriously compromise on road performance - where ,most of these will be driven

In my opinion, any ute that NEVER sees a proper load in the tray or tows a decent load and is only used for soccer drop off is stupid, which is many of them.

And no, not only off-road, but sometimes off road.

Put 14k on the Wrangler so far and at no speed or terrain has it ever felt anything but stable and in control.

A few years back we saw a very low Kay (ie less than 100) two door wrangler ute at the auctions here in Brisbane.
I always assumed they had always been available but rare. Maybe the one we saw was some sort of aftermarket conversion similar to those brutes?
It literally looked like a dead stock wrangler, it was just a two door ute.

Jeep offer a conversion kit themselves.

Looks different. I like it.
I wonder if we will get the openable window between the cab and tray. Seems like I’m the only one who likes those windows.
Hope it has the V6 diesel to play with the big boys. GCs with that engine fly. V6 petrol is a Good engine anyway.
