Fellas,
My Antenna on my XR8 wouldn’t re-tract back into the guard today, any ideas and can they be repaired or fixed. By the way it’s not bent, it was working fine, until when I was ready to drive it back into the garage after today’s drive. Cheers |

I would try some lubricant, it has worked for me in the past.

You will need to pull it out from behind the guard - it is a reasonably easy job.
If it is not an easy job to repair you may need one of these... https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Ford-Fal...frcectupt=true The one on my ute decided not to work anymore. I bought the rope kit but then came across a perfectly functioning one at the wreckers for a good price. There are plenty of youtube videos on how to fix them. |

I think on Foster Ute, the antenna had become a structural member by default.
More seriously, I’d allow some time to clean and inspect the area. Above and slightly behind the motor housing is a prime rust area. Compost wedged in the scuttle corrodes outwards into the void, then spreads down the “branch” of bracing on the outside of the firewall-to-jamb closing panel. So - wheel off, liner out, flyspray the area, dry vacuum, remove antenna, inspect and wash/treat as required. Then as Haynes like to say “Reassembly is the reverse of removal”... |

OK, the lubricant didn’t work, so I took the opportunity today to remove the antenna. Removed the antenna from behind the guard, took the Black plastic cover off the unit and noticed the plastic retractor cable had snapped in half, replace with Arepro antenna, the closet available to original, $32.00 from Repco. All back together working fine.
