Hi. And both very rare as they have the realy big 351 litre engine instead of the 351 CI (or 5.7L) engine. Cheers MD

I know they are rare and desirable, but the prices are breathtaking.
I got my licence in the early 80's when all that stuff was cheap as chips...front of school at 3 pm was clouds of smoke from XU1's, GT falcons etc...I reckon we all wish we still had our first cars given what they fetch now... |

for $96 grand you would think they would at least replace the missing bonnet rubber on the left hand side!
For that money you would nearly expect concours condition.

Awesome old car, my uncle used to have a black one back in the day. Looked so tough with the hidden lights. Wonder how many are left

Someone might pay it I don't know, especially the blue one with all that origional stuff.
I know this is probably heresy but there was a reason the landau didn't sell. I'll never forget riding in the back seat of a mates cobra hardtop. you know the white things with the blue stripes ? XC I think it was. Anyway I'm short but there still wasn't anything like enough headroom. So the only people who would buy a landau was someone who wanted an LTD but never carried more than 1 passenger. That's got to be a limited market. I was never clear on who would buy a hardtop falcon new either. Why would you willingly go without back doors for the same money ? They were never as popular as the 2 door monaros. Another bloke had the 4 door xc with a 51 and 4 wheel discs. THAT was fun! but he kept blowing up gearboxes for some reason. I suspect his driving... I think it was manual, top loader maybe ? ..memory is failing... Anyway... |

Hi. My conversion machine came up with 5.75186 so 5.7L is a lot closer to the mark than 351L. You can call it 5.8 if you want. Cheers MD

Matters not what you or I want to call it or what the calculator says, fact is they are 5.8's, I've never seen or heard of any old 351 Clevos and Windsors badged or called 5.7s, even by Ford themselves.....certainly none of mine (7), if anyone said they have a 5.7 in there Landau most enthusiasts would probably vomit first then want to know why they put a Chevy in it!, but hey if you and your calculator want to try and change history go for it

Hi. In the days of the GT they were quite often entered in touring car races as 5.7 until the days of the XC when ford called them a 5.8. It just meant that the racers didn't want to make the engine sound bigger than they had and the marketing blokes from ford wanted to upsize the same engine. Cheers MD

If you have the need to mock another member then have a little decency to quote them in context.

The Landau overall is the smallest of the hardtop production run so that would make them comparatively rare. http://hardtophub.com.au/facts/
cheers Bill.

they XY falcon 4wd ute apparently only had a production run of 432 so that would make them comparatively rare as well.
http://www.allisons.org/ll/4/Ford/XY/ but never seen one worth any where near a normal XY ute but on the flip side you clean it up and impersonate it as say a fake cobra and then people dont choke so much at the price go figure

and in short thats what i was eluding to
even tho its a coupe and has rarity its seen less desirable dress nit up as a fake something else than an original landau and people wouldnt criticizes the price as much

Anyone can ask any price for stuff they are selling. I watch sail boats sit on market for year after year overpriced. The point I was trying to make is the landau didn't sell because it was a car few people wanted. The whole hardtop line suffered from that. Now they are rare and more people desire 2 door cobras, but in the early 80's they were dirt cheap because no one wanted one. They didn't sell new because no one wanted one.
People drive cars I hate and love them. It's all good, whatever makes you happy, but landaus are rare because no one lined up to buy one new. Simple as that. Those cars will either sell or they won't. Then the owners get to decided to drop the price or hold the car. |
