I am needing to refurbish the front suspension of my ZD Fairlane and I am a bit apprehensive about buying reproduction parts as obviously original parts are long gone. I am wanting to know if anyone has had success or trouble fitting reproduction control arms or bushes or spring saddles or anything else of that nature. Tie rods can be suspect I have read (on this forum I think).

You will be surprised how much NOS/good second hand parts are still around. Some not cheap, but some can be reasonable. In some cases refurbishing an original part is better than repro parts. I find some of the GT shops have the better stuff. But look on Ebay or the alike, some good stuff can be found.

Hi all,
Was going to post a new thread but did a search and found this one. I'm wanting to address some old and tired suspension on my XA Coupe. I too have seen some suspension packages from either Rare Spares, or The GT Shop in Melbourne and wondered if anyone has had experiences? I'm also Brisbane based. I want to replace everything basically. I looked at RRS but the pricing was ouch.... Whilst I'm here - anyone recommend a good engine builder/machine shop also in Brisbane. A 393 stroker is going to go in also.... |

I have used PLR at Brendale for some machine work at least 3 times, with success. However the last time would have over 10 years ago. Things change of course, but worth a chat as they are still operating.

Can’t recommend enough the good reputable shops, have bought a lot of suspension stuff over recent years. Always do your research, I have always tried to buy from one shop but sometimes just does not workout and end up splitting my orders. Concourse items will be more expensive but all are good quality never had to return anything yet. eBay also good for some hard to get parts the shops don’t sell just have to be patient for when they come up. Good luck. Ps have list of what you need to buy helps.

Thanks for the replies.
So JKL - what are some of these shops you speak of? Thats kind of what I'm after. Good advice on having a list of items you need. PM me if you aren't comfortable putting names in a post. |

Speak to Dave from American Suspension and Driveline Parts in Ballarat. He sorted out the complete front end of my Mustang which should be the same as your car. The company I worked for used to deal with him so I know he is good. My entire front end is Moog, much better than Rare Spares, who we also dealt with.

Not sure on Rare Spares suspension parts but I did get some good deals via RockAuto in the US. Not sure how rates compare now with $Aus nosediving.
