The new car draws voltage from a 113kWh battery pack fixed to a skateboard platform.

Lucid Motors claims its sedan is said to accelerate from zero to 100km/h in 2.5 seconds and have a top speed of more than 320kmh.

If accurate, this would also make the Lucid Air substantially quicker than its Tesla competition – the Model S Long Range is said to accelerate from zero to 100kmh in a still-quick 3.5 seconds.

Few other details about the Air have been confirmed by its California-based manufacturer.

The car is set to be officially unveiled for the US market on September 9, 2020.

Drive has contacted representatives for Lucid regarding the prospect of an Australian Air launch in the future.

Earlier this month spy photos leaked of a Lucid SUV, which is expected to come onto the market in 2023.

Tesla does 0-100 under 2.5 seconds but they pick the model S long range for comparison rather than the performance.

Range is interesting and easy to understand given they have 113kWh rather than the Tesla 100kWh so the extra range isn't due to efficiency.

Be interesting in the real world when it finally comes out...

I wonder if they have any substantial backing?

I’e a partnership with an established manufacturer.

As we see with Tesla, having the best tech doesn’t mean you can screw a car together. Then if you can screw it together can you do it efficiently enough to not bankrupt you?

Otherwise it will just be another boutique car builder that will come and go like dozens of others before.

remember seeing a pic of this a few months ago & was thinking wow,..
although i do like the tesla if this came to oz it would be my pick of the 2

The Driven

Lucid Motors has revealed that its upcoming Lucid Air electric sedan will be able to recharge at a rate of 32km per minute and will also be able to discharge energy into the grid or home.

These are some seriously juicy tidbits about the Lucid Air, which will be unveiled in coming weeks and is touted as a rival to the Tesla Model S, the benchmark for all aspiring EV makers.

In a new announcement on Thursday (US time), the Saudi-backed electric vehicle startup said that the Lucid Air will be the “fastest charging electric vehicle ever offered”, thanks to its “highly sophisticated battery and thermal management system, and the Lucid Air’s incredible powertrain efficiency.”

According to the EV startup, the Lucid Air – which last Wednesday we reported will also shatter Tesla’s industry-leading driving range and aerodynamics, and in July that it will include semi-autonomous driving tech – will be able to charge at a maximum rate of 300kW, meaning that it will be able to top up 480km driving range in just 20 minutes.

This impressive rate of charging is made possible by a 900V electrical architecture (most EVs are 400V), and is faster than the 270kW charging of the 800V Porsche Taycan (which although capable of a 350kW max charge rate, is software limited until further notice).



The fastest charge rate of any Tesla vehicle is 250kW, which is achievable at the EV maker’s V3 supercharging stations and ultra-rapid DC fast chargers such as those made by Australia’s Tritium and Swiss electrification giant ABB.

“We designed every aspect of the Lucid Air and its platform in-house to be hyper-efficient, from the powertrain to the aerodynamics, and we’ve set several new benchmarks through these efforts including the longest range EV with an estimated EPA range of 517 miles,” said Eric Bach, VP of hardware engineering for Lucid Motors in a statement.

She's a beauty the Bombardier E class tram - they cost about $9.13M per unit.

EV's have developed in leaps and bounds since the EV1, with a rate of development that has aggressively overtaken what advances ICE vehicles have achieved in the same time frame.

Prices are coming down, more models released from more manufacturers.

All that is needed is a universal battery size system where battery packs are easily exchanged when needed in minutes.

She's got no batteries, the pantograph on the roof connects to overhead power lines! Powered by 6x 85KW electric motors

Clearly this is revolutionary, because nobody before in history has ever drawn a nice-looking car.

Plus obviously it will be a fantastic investment, because as the Chinese have so clearly demonstrated, its easy to build a high-quality automobile with absolutely no experience.

And I've heard it rumoured that this new car will utilise hitherto unknown inventions, called the electric motor and batteries.

I can't wait to tell everyone how superior I am for wanting to own one.

All great in theory but it doesn’t exist yet. All these pipe dream EV manufacturers can claim all they want. But until they actually have retail dealership networks it means nothing.
What we need is mainstream manufacturers to start selling attainable vehicles that people actually want to drive. Volume of sales will drive prices down.

With the rising sales af EVs, the continued competion between manufacturers, when will EVs be produced in large enough numbers that lithium demand outstrips supply endangering the future production of viable products?
