Stumbled across this one the other day.
Certainly doesn't have the frills of the big auction houses but if your after a sunburnt project you're sure to find it here. Lots of X series Falcons. https://www.askbob.com.au/Merredin

Hm,. approx 260km from Perth each way,
Most of those 90's trash cans or usually under $150 cars would have been better not to be there, don't know why they are littering the listings with them rather than just pressing them flat for scrap. Looks like someone been scouring all surrounding farms for abandoned wrecks, (probably over some years) and now wanting to downsize, or could even be an estate sale? Two of those Torana shells to make one out of, would been nice project... but probably starts too high and ends stupid high, who knows, Some early Jap projects that maybe doesn't fetch high future values when restored? Cute, but probably not worth the hours and $$, And some early Falcons that could be projects for someone maybe, And a few Cortina' and Escorts ;-) Maybe that's what you're chasing Cheers, |

Anyone worked out where it is yet? I tried searching satellite images but couldn't find anything so I'm assuming it's Merredin towing and wreckers stock because they're closing maybe.
If it's not that and some estate or property sale being cleared out before the house/property sale, I wonder how much the property is with all stock left where it is and buying it lock stock and barrel LOL. Quote:
They've done the ageing, many like 70s Japanese, 80s whatever or even AUs Not much there for me I can realistically store/fix, but there's interesting stuff there for sure. Would have to go to inspect just so you know what your car is missing and what other lot has those parts and buy as spares cars I think. Who's going? A couple of escorts, mk2 cortina, liking the xb/xc utes, I'm sure there's enough there for a toyota and holden sedan or wagon too. Even some fairlanes which are cool in the "do not paint, just roadkill/vice grip garage/halfass kustoms" drive kind of way, just to drive as is. Last edited by oldel; 18-11-2021 at 02:51 AM. |

What a pile of junk. A couple of the X series and the caravan look salvageable, but the rest was well used before old mate got his hands on them.

Bob's mates will pick through that lot before any auction, lol, Bob's a sly dog, wheeler dealer, had dealings with him in Northam, got a feeling it's not "in" Merredin town but in the shire, probably closer to Cunderdin, I'd google between both towns oldel.

Awful lot of effort gone into it, when you consider that 90% of the lots you wouldn't even bother hauling away for scrap. Then there's s few that will suck in the usual delusional "project" brigade, and spend the next 10 years sitting in old mate's driveway, whilst he painstakingly repairs a tiny fraction of the deficit. BUT there are definitely a few gems sprinkled through there, and a couple of crackers. WTF is he playing at? Surely they would be better off sent to speciality auctions |

I flicked briefly through the terms and conditions for the sale.
Mostly about payment in full, and responsibility for removing bought items. Not a single word about who's responsible for clean titles / encumbrances being cleared by the seller. And there was one paragraph about 'all normal selling regulations' set aside. A car could be a write-off, or have financial encumbrance and buyer have a risk. |

Scrappies wont want any of it either, they want whole cars with cat converters and alloy wheels brought to them, then they will pay up to $500 each, but if they have to go get them, being half stripped, no wheels and no cats, they wont bother making the journey out there, you might get a local scrappy that might bid, but I think most of it will go for way more than they would want to pay for it.
Have spoken to a few serious collectors I know, both know about the auction, but neither of them are going, which is strange as these guys buy anything from anywhere and pay decent money ( they both have multi million $$ collections ), they reckon every man and his dog will be there and any car that is worth anything will go for stupid money because of all the hype around what these cars sell for in restored condition, every one will go thinking they will get a bargain, get caught up in the hype and go away paying too much. Ive decided to give it a miss, I dont need anymore projects |

Most of those guys offering "$400" for scrap are actually scammers fronting for wreckers. They actually only offer really low-ball amounts. The actual market for scrap metal is very poor, and scrap steel is practically worthless. Even in the metro area, if you're lucky you'll find somebody to take away a stripped shell for FREE. No way they're driving out to whoop-whoop to PAY for some rusty old crap. Most of those lots have been smashed beyond repair, then stripped of anything remotely saleable, and left to rot. The whole reason they still exist (and haven't been crushed and sold for scrap) is because they are worthless |

Its funny, I used to buy crap cars from a online auction for $50 - $100, pay the extra auction fees, drag the car home fill it full of crap then sell it to the scrappy for $500, they wont take a car with crap in them now, if they do they take a $100 tip fee off the price. I thought it was to be be postponed but it looks like it would have gone ahead today. Some very ambitious projects amongst that lot!

I was not impressed, most of the cars I was interested in had well and truly been picked over, what was left on them was only rubbish and too hard to fix. I was mostly interested in the Ford Falcons XA-XC, although I did have a quick look at the earlier XW-XY. All cars very rusty. Prior to me going, I took a liking to a XC ute, was advertised as V8 and 4 speed, it had the twin headlight grill. It turned out to be just a XC with 250 cross flow. It was extremely rusty under the fuel tank tray cover. Only really good part on it, was the twin head light grill, and I did not think it was worth carting so far home just for a grill. If you did not check the VIN plate, I could see it being very easy for some one to buy car thinking it was worth while project only to get it home and its just a plain basic car that is not even worth the effort for the parts on it. The steel blue XC Van was one of the best, had a XD V8 motor supplied with it in the back, the original engine was long gone. Still had the single rail 4 speed in it, but still expensive project for some one. Believe it to be rally pack? When I lifted the drivers door when opening, the "A" pillar separated away from the sill panel due to rust, guessing "A" pillar totally rusted from windscreen down. Out of curiosity I took a look at the Zephyr MK1 Ute Shell, you could see where it had been buried in the dirt, the dirt level was still in the engine bay. Looked like some one had found it in a Rubbish tip and brought it to the auction. I was also interest in the ZA Fairlane shell for rust repair cuts, but some one had already beaten me to it, most of the floor was already cut out. What was left of the rear of the car was so twisted, there was nothing to be saved. The where a few cars there with some parts on them I wished to have, but I could not see it being worth while for me to drag a car home for 3 hours just for a few parts. So I did not think it was worth my time to revisit on the day of the auction. Peter |
