Would love to have supported the petition, however it looks like it's only open to residents of NSW.

Its just a tick of box, you give your name and email, no address given, so they wont know where you live.

Indeed, I reckon Calder Park will be gone sooner rather than later if Heathcote Park Raceway continues on its current trajectory as the home of modified cars, new owner has managed to turn it around.

There's a couple suburbs built around Calder Park, that land would be worth a mint.

Thunderdome has been abandoned for years, Mum used to work there in the 1980s

Who is complaining about noise?!? The homestead with 4 reviews?!

They keep closing down these facilities and encouraging people to do it on public roads. Would have helped signed if it wasn't location restricted.

Motorsport is frowned upon, it's basically frowned upon as 'hoons' by the majority of our society and the government doesn't overly care too much about it because it doesn't have the huge gambling revenue because of its low viewership.

There isn't even any houses nearby it from the look of that image, someone has it in for them in their local council.

Maybe they can propose an alternative use? I suggest a yeshiva, with shochet training school on the side. A racetrack might suddenly sound like the nicer option to haters.

It's a great grassroots track and it is sad to see it close. Hopefully it can be brought back.

The situation is from decades of mismanagement by the track, the council and NSW Gov.

In the early 90's, The track was built and zoned to run 4 events a month running historics from the 1920's and 1930's. Last year, they ran 280 event days. I love motorsport but if I track came up near my place and I was told it would be 4 days a month and instead ran 280, I'd be really annoyed.

There is a new track coming up about 25 minutes from Goulburn in Marulan that approached the noise complaints from neighbours differently... They bought out all their neighbours! This is what Wakefield should've done over the last 3 decades but didn't. They should've worked with council and govt to buy out people and secure the site. But they didn't And now we are in this mess.

The other downside is that until Marulan (Pheasant Wood Circuit) is finished with their upgrades, SMSP have a monopoly for the Sydney Basin. Will be interesting to see how much track hire is next year when we host events there. I've got the KY ready.

Shambles.

Wakefield Park Raceway is owned by Benalla Auto Club (BAC), the same regional car club that own Winton Motor Raceway

I was on the committee of BAC when we purchased Wakefield Park, we won it as the owners wanted it to stay a 'car club' track, not another Phillip Island (yes Lindsay was in the running to buy it)

It is a long way out of town, I have no idea why there would be noise issues.

Some local councils are ****ing idiots, they give in to minorities. The track brings big money into the town of Goulburn, through accommodation, food, fuel, etc. They are being very short-sighted

Thanks mad2. Whilst there is a potential legal ramification there (in Qld it could constitute an offence of 'forging and uttering a document') one would certainly have to be unlucky to be charged with it out of an E petition.

My main concern would lie in essentially falsifying the petition by signing it and declaring I was a NSW resident. If someone or some entity were to conduct some background checks on the signatories, and it was found that I'd told a porky pie, then it would render the entire petition a sham.

That certainly wouldn't help the cause of the 'Save Wakefield Park' movement!

I certainly don't want to be a wowser, but I also wouldn't want to compromise a very worthwhile cause either.

Russ.

I wonder if the idiots trying to shut it are going to compensate the BAC the $3.7m they paid for it, plus all the upgrades since owning it

Do these idiots realise they are shafting a small regional car club

I hate losing dedicated regional tracks, and know this will not be popular, but BAC brought this on themselves (or their lawyers did).

They've been breaking their operating conditions for years, and when that became an issue it was their own solicitors that took it to the NSW Land and Environment Court.

All that the Land & Environment Court did was impose the actual use rights for the property, which BAC had been breaching for years.

Not sure what they were expecting, that was always going to be the outcome of what they chose to do. They've had years to try to sort this out - they've been either ignoring the rules or choosing not to clarify them. Did they try putting in a suitable DA or try to find other suitable solution? Seems like they just played dumb or just did not care, then when it blew up they themselves took it to a court that does not have scope to amend the rules but only enforce them.

Sad to see it go - worse still if it was through stupidity of the current operators (or their lawyers).

Taken yesterday for posterity.
Aside, I think that obviously tying it to an “out of town” entity (BAC) may not have helped.

Default Re: Save Wakefield Petition

This is an automatically generated email from the NSW Legislative Assembly.

The ePetition "Save Wakefield Park" has closed for signatures and has been presented in the Legislative Assembly by Ms Julia Finn.

The ePetition text in full is: To the Speaker and Members of the Legislative Assembly, We, the NSW motorsport community and residents & businesses of the Goulburn region and wider NSW, bring to the attention of the House the devastating impact resulting from the closure of Wakefield Park Raceway (WPR) on 1/09/2022. Background: Due to an unfavorable Development Application outcome, the owners of WPR went to the NSW Land & Environment Court which then handed down a decision that made it untenable for WPR to remain open. Concern: • A forecast economic loss for the Goulburn region in the order of $15-30 million p.a. and the loss of one of only two permanent, full-length racetracks in NSW. The closure of WPR will also result in additional economic losses for the State and nationally. • NSW has lost an important facility for teaching road and driver safety • The LEC's decision has devastated motorsport enthusiasts, Goulburn-Mulwaree business owners, and the broader community who consider WPR the 'lifeblood' of Goulburn. We, therefore, ask the Legislative Assembly, and specifically the Minister of Planning, to: 1. work together with the proponent and Goulburn-Mulwaree Council for the benefit of the entire community to establish a viable, interim solution which allows WPR to reopen as soon as possible, and 2. use Ministerial powers to identify suitable, long-term options to reinstate and protect WPR’s future as a viable motor racing circuit for the people of NSW and Australia as soon as possible The ePetition received 28950 signatures and has been sent to the NSW Government for a response.

You will receive an email with a link to the response when it is received.

As the ePetition received more than 20,000 signatures, it will also be debated in the Legislative Assembly at 4pm on a future date – you will receive an email with the date once it is determined..

You can watch the debate on the webcast at https://www.parliament.nsw.gov.au/pa...cast-page.aspx
