Default Wiring Loom

I seem to remember when I was messing round with Microcat that there is a loom you can buy for AU sedans. It is the loom which powers the rear footwell courtesy light (built into your centre console under the air vents) and goes for about $18. I know its a long shot, but does anybody know the part number, and better still, does anybody know how it connects with the power source at the other end (in the centre console somewhere)?

Default Rear Footwell Light

Hi Guys,

I have been wanting to do this for ages but i did not want to rip the console off to not find any loom to plug the light into. Is there a std loom connection there for the light? My car is a AU series 2 XR8.

Any help would be appreciated!!

Cheers

Engineer,

there isnt a loom in there from factory unless yer car is a Ghia or Fairlane etc. Fairmonts dont have it so XR's definately wont.
But as I said in my first post I am sure there is a loom you can get to fit in there. Even if there isnt, its not by any means hard to knock one up yourself.

Default lamp lens part no.

Hi Guys,

If you want to do the rear footwell lamp modification on your AU falcon. You will need the following

1) Wiring Asy-courtesy lamp AU2 13B711 A
2) lamp lens EF13K707A
3) 1 globe (sorry no part number!!)

Cheers
Engineer

p.s maybe we can add these parts into the au parts database too!!

Default Rear Footwell Light Update

Hi All,

Just a small update for those contemplating this modification ( I strongly recommend it it looks great!).

The wiring loom AU2 13B711 A will NOT fit straight in to the std XR8 AUII console, . The AU2 XR8 console has hole for a bayonet style plastic housing (like the side blicker globes or the rear brake light globe). The wiring loom is wired for a long globe with metal ends (like the old glass fuse style). as a result it does not marry up. So I got a plastic bayonet fitting from the the tbar shifter gloge of an old au and soldered the wires on. I also wired it into the green/yellow stripe wire and the black/blue stripe wire in the loom that goes over the transmission hump under the console.

It worked a treat and looks fantastic. Worth the effort for sure..

Cheers

Topic Dredging...

Hey Russell, do you know if the same lamp assembly fits into the hole at the back of the BA Console?

If not, is there any chance you know the part numbers for the BA unit? I'll be wiring it up myself.

I was looking at running vents through my centre console (in a ute though) .... to cool my sub amp that sits directly behind it.

But I'd say there's going to be a hell of a lot of ducts i need to run through to do .... so I have put the idea on hold ... for a long time.

just put a couple of PC fans there. no ducting needed.

Lense ordered. I'm not sure what I'm getting - service guy couldn't help much, he didn't have a picture. $11 new. What I hope I'm getting is the clear lense and the backing plate for a globe holder - it has been mentioned here that the Globe Holder itself is part of the harness.

However, not certain right now.

I found a site that someone has done a writeup on installing it into a BA: http://au.geocities.com/neon_lightbu...amps/index.htm

And to honest, while the 'Mod' instructions were absolutely fantastic on car disassembly, they were a bit short on the components and the wiring.

Not a bad idea actually.
Did the sedans come with vents in that section???
I am presuming they did.
If I can get the section that has the vents i might try it.

sure did.

and knowing ford, the airducting is probably there at the bottom of the console, so you just need a sedan console to "plug" in :

I had my console out yesterday afternoon replacing the Autoshifter globe ... no ducting .... wonder if it moulded into a sedan console though ... might see if they are pretty much the same.

Eventually I will have the centre console replaced as I have drill holes in mine from the work 2-way data terminal (they are going to new handheld units soon so doing away with the old cumbersome unit) ... so it might be time to look for a sedan centre console.

I think under the dash the foot vent is split in 2 already on the ute ... so it looks like it is really to have a duct fitted over one side to divert to the rear.

woops i meant at the bottom of that dome centre thing where the radio and that is. when you pull out a sedan console, there is airducting there, which connects to the ducting in the console itself which goes to the rear vents! its really hard to explain!!!!

I think I know what you mean ... I have no ducts there ... I just have the AUTO ECU/PCM mounted under there ... nothing else to connect to.

Only difference between the sedan and ute consoles is the bit at the back, on the utes it has a plastic cover with no vents whereas on sedans it has the vents and the bezel for the rear courtesy light.

The A/C ducting itself isnt moulded into the console, its a seperate part. As Simon said, on the utes the ducting doesnt come down to meet it under the radio fascia, so it would be a bit of work to put it in.

Might be able to just replace the cover with vents then ... and then use PC fans behind that

If i can get the light as well I might play with something (or I'll get Stav to as I am crap with electrical stuff).

Not much room for me to lose stuff behind the seats ... but I have a bunch of crap sitting ontop of my amp though.
