Default We Were Soldiers

Just a few lazy minutes before i try and get through the mad traffic at the Adelaide show today to pick up the trouble n Strif & Tin Lid,

Tonight's channel 7 movie, " we were soldiers once and young " runs at 8.30 it is a true life account of one of the first major battles in the vietnam war between the americans and the VC, the bravery on both sides leaves you in complete respect for anyone who has ever seen active service.

and contains the Lines in my sig " Custer was a Pussy ", in essence when all odds seem stacked against you, you can stand tall and defy all odds and make it through.

The message in some way these guys left us, reflect in our daily battles and given what these guys went through we have it pretty lucky.

Its definatley one of the best movies to come out of hollywood in recent times. Don't think anyone could have played that part as well as Mel Gibson. Top movie

Same, caught the end on Showtime and had to watch the whole thing on Showtime2.. I thought it was excellent, nice to see the first world war getting an 'accurate' Hollywood portrayal...

Have to say that since "Saving Private Ryan" the realism has been stepped up a few notches. That movie was so far ahead of everything else that it redefined a war movie. Still one of my all time favourite movies ever. It set the standard for everything else that followed.

Mel Gibson shows the world how the Vietnam War was fought.

Bit rich considering his family moved here to avoid the draft.

Good on yu Mel!

The original das boot was a very interesting look at the stresses of war. Not so much a war movie as a look at the human pshycological condition caused by high stress and an acceptance that you will probably die.
The fact its in German makes it even more interesting to watch. Got to feel for the U Boat crews, 2/3 of them never made it home.

Spot on Casper. The original was the best.

Best combo war flick would have to be Kelly's Hero's.
Blood, guts and screwball (sorry Oddball) comdey.
Mind Russian T34's dressed up as German Tiger's was a bit much.
Now there's a thought, how would some of the Ford mods go on improveing a WWII Tanks 0-100 figures?

Das Boot..top movie...Saving Private Ryan top movie...but if you want something totally abstract and at the same time so true....Catch 22 I think the book was better than the movie.
The Odd Angry Shot was a bit clean but nonetheless good, will be watching We were Soldiers but I have deja vu about Once Were Warriors.

In what way was it not accurate? On the DVD I have under the specials, the guy Mel Gibson plays seemed to be particularly happy about the way the battle was recorded, suggesting that it was an accurate depiction of what happened...?

Where is your source from?

Hmm two best war movies would have to be Gallipoli (just because its ours) and Band of Brothers. If you haven't seen BOB, think saving private ryan x 10 movie length episodes. Got the whole series on DVD, best movie buy ever.

I saw Gallipoli at the movies when I was very young. It had a proflund effect on my to this very day. Its one of those movies that changed the way I looked at and accepted things. Even today it has the same effect on me.

BoB was awesome, I'd love to get the box set.

We Were Soldiers is easily the best war movie Ive seen. The sound effects are excellent too. Somehow I don't think my neighbours like it too much though...:

SASR lost one man, died after returning to Australia from his wounds. They erned the name 'Ma Rung' (vietnamese for jungle ghost) that's for sure out: SASR and Ghurkas (Gorkhas, and mentioned cause I want a Khukri) - hard mofos

Oh yeah We Were Soldiers, not a bad movie either.
