Urban Services Minister John Hargreaves today (Sunday, 6 November 2005 )announced details of the 2005/06 road resealing program which is planned to start on Monday in Watson.
"The resealing program is part of the ACT Government's commitment to keeping our roads well maintained and safe and we are particularly targeting those roads that have deteriorated as an inevitable consequence of age and traffic use," Mr Hargreaves said. "A contract to the value of $3 million has been awarded to Emoleum for the work, which will involve the resealing of arterial roads, main urban roads and municipal streets, totalling approximately 730,000 square metres of pavement. "Road resealing in the northside has been programmed to be completed in mid-December 2005, while work on the southside areas will start in December 2005. The whole resealing program is expected to be complete by late February 2006." The major roads to be resealed as part of the program include: Bindubi Street, northbound, from Lyttleton Crescent to Belconnen Way Kings Highway, from ACT Border (Queanbeyan end) for a distance of 1.0km Tillyard Drive, between Spalding Street and Covington Street Newcastle Street from Wollongong Street to Isa Street Tuggeranong Parkway, northbound, from Hindmarsh Drive to Glenloch Interchange Isabella Drive, eastbound, from Coyne St to the Monaro Highway Monaro Highway, between Newcastle Street and Canberra Avenue Monaro Highway, southbound, from Canberra Avenue to Hindmarsh Drive exit Monaro Highway, between Johnson Drive and the lookout Selected streets will also be resealed in suburbs including Kaleen, Charnwood, Macquarie and Aranda (on the northside) and Lyons, Kambah, Duffy and Chifley (on the southside). Signage will be erected well in advance of road resealing work. Additionally, affected residents in suburban streets will be advised by letter drops at least two days before the start of resealing works on their street. The media will also be kept informed so they can warn the travelling public. "The works will be carried out during off-peak times to minimise the impact on road users, however, motorists are asked to be patient with any delays when travelling through the various work sites, or if possible, use alternative routes," Mr Hargreaves said.

I reckon the entire Parkway should be resealed from the intersection with Sulwood Drive in Kambah, right into the city and vice versa. It's in a real bad way. Probably the worst road I use the most.

Wish they would hurry up and finish the roadworks on Majura Rd. Actually I wish they would duplicate the whole road (but with less bumps!) and make it 4 lanes with 100km/h speed limit.

Not really related. But.. There is a strecth of road (actually main road right over my fence) that has been worked on for months. It has now been finished and the end result is a road that is almost twice as wide, with turning lanes, bus stops and a bike lane. Pedestrian crossings very neatly marked and a much better road in general. The only thing that s me off is it has been dropped from a 70km road to 60km.. W T F?

Its all good they reseal these roads but the one done outfront of my work (4 months ago) is now coating the tyres of all that park on it. Now that the weather is warming up a bit it seems to be getting tacky again and lifting the small stones.... You can actually hear the stones bouncing off cars etc when the trucks pass - a letter is being written to the council now - but I hope they dont use the same consisency of tar v stones on the new ones in the hotter months......I hate the sound of crack and ping on the front of my car on the newly sealed roads at the moment let alone have a heap more to contend with.....
