OK, who here lets their significant other drive their car?
I have, through duress or drunkenness, let Alyson drive the Green Machine a few times... It wasn't that scary, until on the last Qld cruise, I let her drive it by herself and followed a few cars back... and she and Gammaboy decided that it was a Targa-style tarmac rally through the back of Lismore. It got to the stage where I could no longer watch. So who shared their beast, and what do you think about it? NH *note: Particularly interested in SMCINER1's reply to this thread :P

I taught my significant other to drive, so I have no real problems letting him drive the car... that being said, he is a bit more egotistical and thinks he's much better than me, quoting the two or three little issues that I have had here and there over the last 16 years.
I think it's better to have a little bump (like the guy who, on a hill, rolled back into my bumper bar, smashing my blinker cos he couldn't use a handbrake and clutch together) rather than a totally clean record - because you could get a bit blase about it and think you are a driving God. You learn from mistakes - if you don't make them, how do you learn?!?! That's my excuse and I'm sticking to it. :SaiyanSmi If this thread turns into a sexist war, I will be coming in, guns blazing. Just a friendly PMS Redheaded warning... :

when i get another spouse, there is no way that she will be driving my car, unless she pays to be insured on it, or im incapaciated. in which case, ill be forcing her to stay with me and sleep whereever we are.

I tend to prostitute my car out to all and sundry as no-one else could treat it as meanly as I do… although some have come close…
My Ex hated me driving his XR6 ute because he loves to baby it and he hates the way I believe a car should be driven hard. I used to laugh at him when he used to get all upset because I drove a little too spirited for his conservative liking - I guess thats another reason as to why he's the Ex! _ |

SWMBO drives the Territory more than me ... although i have fun in my ute though ... she gets to drive that occasionally though (as long as I get to drive my Territory once a week).
Meh ... the ute is cheap to run .... she has to pay for fuel for the Territory though (that's the conditions she has for driving it ... hee hee

She isn't insured for it, so she doesn't drive it. Simple. It's got nothing to do with trust, I just can't afford to be that much money out of pocket.
No way in hell she'll be driving the XB when it's done. That however, has everything to do with trust. |

My wife is currently driving one of my cars the 02 Mazda Astina. She has also driven the XB but she doesn't like it due to the manualised auto. She just can't get the hang of it.
I usually drive around her 97 EL Falcon. She drives too far and treats cars like taxi's. I can't afford to fuel the EL for here. So the Madza it is ;)

Yup, not a problem, she can drive my car any time she wants, in fact, I welcome her feedback with how different it feels to drive to the EB, particularly in the areas of steering feel (weighting and general ease), torque delivery at low RPMs, seating instrumentation and general driver comfort, and outright power "feel". Always helps to get another persons opinion.
Besides, her and I being the same height means there is no adjustment when the other person gets into the drivers seat - mirrors, seat, etc are all already perfect :hihi:

When I had my ED Falcon I refused to let husband drive it.
I let him drive it in a deserted shopping centre car park once, but after 2 years of being together, I started to let him drive it - until in the end he was driving it more than I did.

She prefers to drive the focus and I prefer to drive the falcon. Both cars are as much mine, as they are her's. We share. So theres no his or her's in our house

No. I never let my wife drive any of my cars. The two previous ones she was unable to drive at the time and the current one just doesn't go. Makes it easy.

Lets see, my Wife crashed the Territory (ok, not her fault, however she was driving it), yet she is still eager to drive the Territory. I have had it in the Garage for a while, but on Monday, her car got garaged, and she got the Territory.
On the other hand, SWMBO is a little edgy when I get the keys to her car, because I have been used to a 'powerful' car, and her 4 Cylinder Mazda is lacking.

Hahaha NO way..
If your g/f spun out and hit a gutter in a Toyota Celica,(front wheel drive).. with about 2500 bucks worth of suspension work(this thing can turn corners!), half the power of my car, on totally dry roads.. would you let her drive your car? |

Problem solved automatically when you have a manual, and your partner only drives auto.
I panic when ANYONE else drives my car. : Even when I had my old $750 XD. But all hell breaks loose when my Dad wants to drive. He crunches gears and whatnot, being used to his old Mazda manual ute, and I cannot deal with it at all. : He laughs when I cringe and clench my hands. : : :
