I have just bought a AUII XR8 Ute and there is a 'nice' clunk in the drivetrain, just as the clutch engages. I have checked the uni joints, but they were fine. Has anybody had anything like this before.
Also, the gear lever (manual) seems sloppy - any ideas? |

Mate you have the exact same annoying little noise that you hear as you relsease the clutch and if you listen carefully you would hear it also as you back off. It comes from the diff, and i have yet to find a fix, tryed new oils, friction modifiers, and spoken to local transmission places and I have been told several times that the Ford diffs "just do it" personally I didnt like this answer. The second response was they could rebuild the diff but they made no promises of that fixing the problem either... :

ive had the same problem with my au2, i had the diff checked out and was told it was all good, i found that it it is prone to doing it the more it heats up. just another one of those quirks i guess.
