Default Look after your pets FFS!

Ok, firsty, I am no model citizen lets get that straight, but I do have a heart.

How bloody hard is it for people to look after their pets! Currently my GF and I have two cats that we brought from the RSPCA for $110 each, fully vacinated etc etc. Heres a pic just for the hell of it.

So, we are renting at the moment and the land lord wasn't completely impressed with our purchase about 12 months ago (they said no pets..meh whatever), but they got over it. Now as of 3 days ago there is a really nice cat/kitten sooking around our house ALL day.

When I used to live at home mum used to say "dont feed strays or they wont go away". So I gave the missus that advice, its tough but we gave it no lovin for 3 days now.

Its still here, so tonight I had to feed it and give it water, there is only so much I can take. Here is a pic, its a beautiful cat so I dont know what the owner is doing, buts its rather skinny.

I dont think its on heat because nothing smells weird around the place, I think its a girl, haven't had a good look yet.

So my plan is to drop some flyers off tonight in the letter boxes in my street and see if anything comes of it. If not, then I am going to have issues telling my GF that we cannot take another one, two is plenty.

So what I am trying to say is FFS, how fu(king hard is it to register a cat! (or any animal for that matter) or even put a collar on it with its name or home address. Some people dont deserve to breathe. So instead of buying a slab, or a few ciggy packs register your animals so if they go missing they can be returned!

Its really not that bloody hard.

I agree. It is absolutely beautiful.
It's not hard to spend $5 on a collar and $22 for the year to register your animals. At least you have the security that if they ever get lost, someone will know where to return them.

Good luck with it, I can understand your gf wanting to keep her.

That's an expensive cat too.. a long haired siamese derivative.
I agree.. it isn't that hard. We currently have 4 cats and if we aren't careful we could end up keeping a lot more.

I can understand that registering a cat is a pain in the butt.

I used to live out in the "country" so to speak, and we never bothered out there. but in Geelong, jeez.....

We dont even let teh cats outside after 8/9ish, its to annoying to get them again.

I dont bother with the tag cus Shelby either chews it off or it gets ripped off when shes playn or something.
Do what will prbably be required soon anyway,an get her a CHIP which they insert under the skin(no pain)
If she gets lost they scan her,no dramas!

Its also much cheaper if ur pet is 'fixed'

It's not a pain in the butt, 5 minutes at the council office, pay $22 then it's done. Then each year you can just b-pay the renewal without even leaving your house.

I can't let Gavin (my cat) outside at night either. Despite the council guidelines, we have had a few foxes in the area lately. Just too dangerous for him.

I purchased my cat when it was a kitten from an animal shelter. It has a micro chip inserted under the skin. Does this negate the need to register the cat?

Funny to see this thread as my dog ran away tonight... He's a spoilt little fella that doesn't go anywhere outside the front door unless you carry him, but tonight he ran off when I was busy working on my car. Anyway luckily for us he had a collar with our number and someone rang to say they found him.

Have you taken it to the vet to see if it is microchipped??
Poor little puddy cat. All my pets, except Tyson (our latest addition, Ridgeback X ) have always been from a shelter. I hate to think how many animals actually get killed each year from negelectful owners!!!

Thats very lucky!!! Tyson, our dog has been sneaking next door lately. We couldnt work out why he kept going over there until we realised our moron neighbour has been feeding him and letting him inside her house. Last week we couldnt find him for ages and she had gone out and left him locked inside her house. We even spent over $400 on an electric fense to stop him going over there. So what does she do, go and lift the fence up for him. He's only a puppy (well sort of, 1.5yrs) so its impossible to teach him proper boundaries! grrrr Some people are so ИИИИИИИИИ in the head!!!!

ohh great..its been crying for the past hour near the laundry door..ahh what should I do?

I can seperate the laundery from the rest of the house..if I let it in and leave the door ajar it can get out when it wants.

If its still here tomorrow then I think we will take it to the vet....what do you guys think? Is letting it inside a bad idea? It will be isolated in the laundery with a way out.

Guys, if you don't have anything nice to say about cats then don't post in this thread, it will get deleted, this is not a thread about doing inhumane things to cats.

Its really nice of you Polyal to look after her, its sad that the family who own her aren't looking after it properly.

Can you get it to the RSPA? If it has a good personality I am sure that it will get adopted. The RSPCA will de sex it and vaccinate it as well. Just a thought.

My mate had one of those cats, it's called a ragdoll and was about $1000 for a kitten.
Does it have any tattoo'd dots in one of it's ears? I'd get it checked for a chip.

Ragdolls are suppsoed to have the gentlest temprement - hence the name ragdoll. You can annoy the hell out of them and they won't scratch or whatever - great for kids and real $$$$$$

Cats are manipulative creatures - don't give in.

I remember hearing a ver say that a cat will have its owner trained to do at least 3 things for them. When I thought about it my cat had me trained to do about 8 things for him. This cat is not even yours and your doing stuff for it....powerful cat.

Also I love the photo of your 2 cats. They have similar markings and both look comfortable as relaxing on the couch....Are they related?

Yes cats are very manipulative...I never actually thought about it that way.

And yeah, our two cats are also identical except the girl (on the right) has a black nose. They are brother and sister. We went to the RSPCA just wanting one cat, a girl, and then the boy wouldn't leave my GF alone...so we got two...but I am very glad we did now.

Really weird though the boy is HUGE..like, one of the biggest cats ive seen, and the girl is tiny (I think she was the runt of the litter), but both are healthy.

And they would want to be relaxed, they own this damn house..lol..you should see the new scratching house (not pole).

Nice lookin' cat - would be hard turning a blind eye if she's decided she wants to hang around... i mean, look at those eyes!

But yeah - im sure it'd be taken from the pound within a few hours of you droppin her off there... i'd adopt her in a second! Looks like been well looked after... up until now...

Ok well our cats needed to go for their yearly check up anyway, so we took that stray in aswell.

I feel a little better now, but still feel bad as it will now go to the RSPCA pound. Found out that it had been desexed so perhaps someone did care about it.

So apparently the story goes that unless someone claims the cat within 7 days its up for adoption. We asked if its not taken soon tha they could give us a call.

This cat will be at the Geelong animal shelter if anyone is interested.

Oh no...possiblility of three cats..lol

On a side note, we got ours wormed/checked/vacinated and it came to $200!...damn...ah well, they seem happy now.

don't let anyone tell you cats use you
typical iggnorant dog loving point of view

if you don't treat them well they won't listen
i have 2 cats....ones nearly 16...the other nearly 2.....
They don't sit or do tricks but they come when you call them
They always are waiting in the driveway when you come home and will walk with us along the bike track while we walk the dog....
There always home when your home except early in the morning lol.....must be when they get up to mischeif

its funny tho....you have little animals live around you so long they turn into little people
