I was vacuuming my car today and the cleaner hose got caught under one of my front seats, so when I went in to investigate I came across some cable and a plug in the middle just sitting under there. One end was in some sort of conduit and the other just had heat shrink on it. I was just wondering what they are for, as there is one under both front seats, and why there was so little effort to conceal these?
Sorry bout the picture quality, it was only taken on my phone. |

I'm not positive, but I think they are connected to where you plug the seatbelt in, tells the dash light to turn off once you put your belt on?

So it is defiantly needed. I am just a little concerned as to why it would be just sitting there so freely? Could it be something to do with options, maybe it connects to the seats in a Ghia when you get electric ones? I guess I’ll just have to be a little more careful when vacuuming next time.

It's supposed to clip in to the cover over the bolts that hold the seat to the floor. If that cover is missing, then that's why it's floating free. And it is the seat belt explosive charge pretensioner thingys.

Yep definatelly needed , and yeah they are a pain where they are , i managed to knock the plug within the first 2 days of having my car while cleaning it , then had to put up with a flashing airbag light for the next 2 weeks until someone told me what the problem was ! .

Move your seat back as far as it will go and then you should see a small bracket / clip just under the front of your seat that it is suppose to mount on so that it isn't just rolling around under your seat.
It is the seat belt sensor (as posted by private9) that lights up in your dash before you clip the seat belt in and as posted by whoosha, it is the seat belt pre tensioner thingy. Gotta love the thingy, Whoosha. In the case of a serious accident your airbag would go off as will the tensioner which is part of your seat belt. All in all its an omportant safety part of your car |
